Anyone driving less due to high gas prices?

A lot of folks I talk to claim that they are driving fewer miles due to high gas prices. I, for one, have always pretty much restricted my driving to and from work (25 miles round trip). Any errands I need to run are completed on my way home. Frankly, my miles driven have not changed that much because I've always been cheap! I am almost at the point of minimal consumption, I do not know how I could cut back further. Public transportation is not very popular here, but I may ask a coworker to start a carpool. Everything around here is so spread out and riding my bike is many times unfeasible. Anyone else already driving as little as possible?

About the only change I've made in my driving, is now me and another guy will Carpool to some of our softball games. Since we play 3 nights a week, whoever's wife/GF isn't coming, the other drives. Other than that, its driving as normal.

Kind of like you, work and errands are run after work on the way home. We travel very little on the weekends. The traffic on the weekends is horrible anyways but we enjoy our home and just recently converted our basement into an arcade with three pinball machines and other games. Been hanging out in there a lot.

I've skipped a couple of long trips to Iowa. (Gas is a total of $100 there and back.)

i go out less during the weekend and mostly just drive to and from work (about 60 miles round trip). just yesterday i walked to the video store and that took about an hour...driving only took less than 10 minutes lol had to take a bus back and good thing it was only 25cents for the bus

nope, still drive a ton for work and pleasure as one of my hobbies is now auto racing...I have noticed though highway traffic is slowing down, going under the limit and at the limit, unfortunately doing so in the left lane

I don't drive nearly as much as I used to. I had a $50 fill-up last time.

when i first started my job (just before i bought the vibe) i had a 60 mile round trip. a couple years ago i moved to my present place, cutting my commute in half. but when the gas crept up to $4/gallon, i started taking the train 3 days a week. my company gives us vouchers for taxi to get us from the train station to the office. we have to obviously pay for the train. but its become a cool challenge try to get a free ridealthough i love driving my vibe, i'm not tossing money down the gas tank, and i'm saving wear and tear on the car.

Well I was going to work and sitting in front of a computer then coming home. Seemed a waste to drive all the way in, now I have a computer and phone from work in my office, here at the house. I drive very little other than to grab kids and some shopping. So I'm driving a lot less than I used to. I bought the Vibe to save on gas and get a reliable car because I was driving almost 35k miles a year runnin kids around and goin to work. Now I do a little under 12k a year. My husband on the other hand bought his Eclipse in August and has 21k on it already.

I still travel the same number of miles, I just put a lot more of them on my motorcycle than on my Vibe. My girlfriend lives in Houston (160 miles each way). I spent a couple hundred bucks on the bike to make it more comfortable for the ride, and I'm only six more trips away from those upgrades paying for themselves in gas savings.

No. My business revolves around mobility. if anything, I'm having to drive MORE to go to customers vs them coming to me.

Yes - driving significantly less. Not so much to make ends meet as to do my part in reducing demand which is the only way to get energy prices down.

Yes - Working on driving at least 10% less this year. Bought the new 09 Vibe to help lower the cost on the other 90%.

Yes, combining errrand trips, waiting a day or two to get something if I know I am going that way later for another reason.

I think that I've been driving more this year than I ever have. Cruising for fun is one of the only things I look foward to, so when I get the chance, I take full advantage of it. I just dont buy anything else but gas these days. Oh well, it makes me happy!

I am the same with AJ. I will still be driving the same as I am now even when gas gets to $6 a gallon. I don't care. I loooooooove driving and cars are all I care about. I'll buy a chpea crappy house just to use the extra money towards cars and driving.I do plan on quiting my job soon which is 25 miles one way, mostly because I am way under paid and I am getting tired of getting up 2 hours before I am scheduled. It's not worth my time.

I was already parking the Vibe on the weekends and using my wife's minivan in order to save miles on the Vibe due to my long commute (43 miles). About all I can do is try some hypermiling techniques to cut back on gas usage during my commute.

I am in the same boat hskater. I take my bike whenever it's nice out because A: it gets WAY better gas mileage and cheaper to fill up, and B: it is a lot faster and more maneuverable than the Vibe and because of my personality I am naturally late for everything so it helps lol. Unfortunately I have horrible luck and everything in my life that can go wrong, is going wrong, including the rear tire on my Duc getting punctured yesterday. I am broke so I cannot get a new one yet...how pathetic is that?

Well, I rode my bike to work for the first time ever this morning. 7 miles one-way.We haven't really cut back on our driving too much, but my wife and I haven't driven very many miles since we moved back two years ago. I'd hate to think of how much we'd be spending on gas if we still had our old commutes of 25+ miles each way with two cars. I was filling up the Vibe every Friday back then (so about 300 miles every 7 days).

People in Minnesota ALWAYS do that Parnell. Drives me freaking nuts!Anyway, I'd say I haven't really been driving LESS, just because I rarely go anywhere besides work. I've tried to keep the speed down, but MAN that is HARD for me to do.

(removed) that's fun Drivenut. We just put a turbo in my friend's si and that thing is faaaaast. It certainly burns up the gas though and even more so since everyone wants a ride lol.

LOL...I know what you mean Merzbow...I only got 20 MPG for the first 2 or 3 tanks after getting the SC.

yes, stay out of boost for the best mileage. in the LGT, I avg about 20 mpg city and 25 hwy. Amazingly enough, with the extra gear in the STI, I get about 22-23 city and 23-26 hwy.

Less driving on days off, more motorcycling (58mpg) when the weather isn't too hot and when I do drive it is slower. We need to tap into OUR coal, oil and nuclear, while developing a renewable energy source.

Not so but plan my errands to finish in the shortest and least traffice routing. Weekend and day off driving are still the same but I really feel there are less cars on the road

Definitely planning errands and trips more carefully. My '04 still consistently gets 37 mpg.
