SRS air bags

I went from cloth seats to oem leathers. The new leathers don't have the side air bags in the seats. I was wondering if I would be able to strip the seat down and put the air bags in the leathers, put the leather covers on the old seats, wether or not the leather would react the same in an accident, and if all else fails if there's some way to just get the light to stay off on the dash.

There's airbags in the seats? That's news to me!

I thought side air bags were in the a-pillar. Guess I was wrong!

My 2003 has side air bags, and they are located in the seatbacks for the front seats. Supposedly when they blow, they blast open a seam in the uphostery. At some point they started putting in side curtain air bags, but I don't know if they are instead of or in addition to the seat mounted ones like in my 2003 model. THe 2006 owners manual shows both, the seat mounted, and a set of curtain ones that come from the ceiling above the doorsEither way, all side air bags are optional, not standard, unless they changed that for 09.It seems like it would be possible to insert the aribags into the new leather clad seats, but you'd want to make sure there was a weak seam, or velcro, or some other way to make sure that whent he side air bags blew, the force would be directed where it was designed to go, and not somehow directed at your spine.I don't know how to convince the car, that it doesn't need to complain about the missing side air bags anymore. Not sure what to recommend, but here's a pic from the 2003 owners manual I must have posted somewhere before, shows how the seat mounted side air bags deploy, and a warning
