So when i went to work this morning everything was working well.when i got back into my car, i noticed that the cluster didn't light up. figured i probably turned down the lamp, so turn that down and back up, nothing. Then I noticed that the tach, speedometer, temperature, thermostat and all that also was not working, and are all just sitting dead like the car is off (on my 1 mile drive home)so once i get home, i checked the fuse for the gauges, and that looked fine, but i swapped it with a different one anyway, and the orginal fuse worked in another slot, but still nothing.if i put the car in the on position then the door open light comes on, check engine, battery and all comes on fine.the car also drives totally fine with no other problems.anyone have ideas on what to take a look at?power door locks, the sunroof, AC are all fine too (they share the fuse with the guages and meters)The car has around 88,000 miles on it right now.

First of all, a one mile commute to work? You suck Do your tail lights and dome lights still work? How about the beeper when the engine is off, the key is in the ignition and driver door is opened, does that still work?

Check the connections going to the gauge cluster. Pull the rings strait off, then remove the one screw on top of the cluster. Then push the clips on the bottom right and left

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. Turned out it was the dimmer switch. When I pushed the wheel of the dimmer to one side, it lit up like normal. Here's the thread on my experience with this:

I have just experienced the same issue. ( 03 as well) I have isolated it to the gauge cluster itself. ( follow Jeremey's instructions) Once you remove the connection and reconnect it, it works fine for a while, but it has happened a couple of times. I think it may be time for a new cluster. I will let you know.
