I just started using the Scan Gauge a few days ago and I'm finding the MPGs a little unbelievable. I'm constantly getting 36-42 MPG on my commutes to work under the "trip" reading, whereas pre-scan gauge I was getting 32-34 MPG just figuring it on my own at fill ups. My question is, has everyone found the readings to accurate? Did you have to adjust the engine size setting at all? Maybe I'm just being a more efficient driver now-a-days. I gotta tell ya, I'm not used to driving so damn slow...at least my girlfriend has a company car with free gas so I can drive like a man once-in-a-while!

You want to see something really crazy, set one of the gauges to read mpg, then get up to highway speed and then coast for a little bit. It'll read like 150 mpg. I think your getting higher readings than normal because it probly factors in stuff like that. Every time you let off the gas your mpg will go way up.

Burns, I will say that you will get better mileage just watching the gauge. However, you need to make sure you get the same amount of fuel in the tank each fillup, or at least as close as you can. Also, make sure you have the tank size and engine size set properly. I calculate my feul mileage with a calculator and it is pretty dang close to the gauge. You need to re-read the instructions on calibrating your SC. After setting the engine size, tank capacity, speedometer and such, you're supposed to fill up after a half tank, adjust the fillup setting (set to same # of gallons), then run it again. On the second fillup, you have to reset your fillup setting again.On average, my fillup setting is about 10%. This is basically a factor against the default settings to make the MPG readouts more realistic. Long highway usage will skew the results to the lower end (i.e., less than 10% for me) and vice-versa for city driving. I just leave it at or near 10%, even if my fillups would indicate a change.

you have to calibrate it. Right now my calibrations is sitting at -8%. Im Trying to find ways to get it up to 0% and above

I pretty much just glanced over them when I hooked it up, didn't really read about the calibration stuff.

Hey, I think it took me 6 months to read how to reset the thing on each fillup. Sometimes we are forced to look at instructions, or have our wife read them to us.Dan
