Anyone know the status of the GM supercharger?

Post by THE VIBERATOR »

What happened with it? is it discontinued? I have heard some rumblings about that but nothing has been confirmed to me about it. If i could get my hands on one, i would really jump at the opportunity. If theyre all out, then thats fine. I'd be happy going naturally aspirated too.

So, does that mean that it doesn't do enough? I was gonna go the turbo route, then 'that shop' had problems and stopped making their kit. Then I was going to just do nitrous until I saw a s/c on ebay. I won the bid at $1500 and installed it myself. If I could do it all over again, I would turbo.

It brakes down like this if your an old fart like me and married and you need the car to run good then S/C it. If you love spending money Turbo away. I really love the torque of the S/C makes it a Great Daile driver for around town.

I wouldn't say that. I think I would have spent the same if not less with a turbo and have a hellofalot more power to show for it.

Either way.....the s/c will be in my vibes future if i can get that kind of money and actually find one when i need it. A turbo kit would be nice however. MAYBE if i find one for less money (around 1500-2000) i may be able to get one sooner than is projected

WOW thanks Raven! I don't expect to be buyin any superchargers since winter is coming along, and I really don't expect to be buying any next year either. I'll need to see whats available about 3 to 4 years from now to buy one, but for now, I'm happy with the car's progress. Thanks anyways!

I could go turbo...its something I will have to consider, but frankly until I get settled and make some money, I have no option but to go natural, which is really quite fun as well. Makes for a good sleeper. No whining or spooling of the turbo, and since i have no exterior mods, I can make it quicker without going FI if i wanted to.

Yes , Yes , life is full of regrets, "I shoulda gone turbo" or "We shoulda kept 'Jet Favre'" Hey Lancer how is it going?Viberator, dont wait 3or 4years to do this mod. If you are going to spend the money , You will want to enjoy it for as long as you can.

I need a good solid job first. But even then, will it be worth risking the longevity and reliability that Toyota has stood for? In my eyes, NA is the way to go and only when i run out of mods to do on the NA side of things, then i can start to get into FI if possible or needed. Chances are i won't need it. I'm thinking more along the lines of doing a tranny swap for a 5MT when i get the money.

You can probably get a universal kit from STS Turbos, http://www.ststurbo.com/, and get all the power you are wanting and their universal systems are between $2000 and $3000 depending on what stage you use. If i were to go turbo, this would be the only way I would.

Yes that looks good Wolfman, thanks for the tip. It's tough to say whether the supercharger will still be available a few years from now, but I know for a fact that turbos will be.

I believe that the supercharger was only sold for cars up to 2004. The FBW throttle engines from 2005 do not work with the kit.

The Drive By Wire of the '05-'08 models worked with a throttle body adapter (spacer). I believe they had info on them at newcelica, 9thgencorolla, or at matrixowners. But it will work, just not as easy. Also, good luck finding some. I know there was an aftermarket complete kit by GReddy.
