I figured I should get my 2005 checked out before the waranty expired. Well, I just realised I'm 1500 miles over the limit. Damn! I've been so busy! All I've done to this car is get regular oil changes and air and oil filter changes. What should I get looked at to keep this car in good shape?Transmission oil change? Anything else? Thanks.

Many folks here talk about doing drain and fill rather than transmission flush. I did that at 40,000 miles after buying my '05 with 34,600 miles in early December '07. Try changing cabin air filter - you won't believe crud in there. Directions are on this site, and it's an easy DIY. By the way, I was over my warranty when rubber on windows had problem. Dealer politely refused, but after my call to Pontiac's customer service, dealer called me to say to bring it in and they would handle without charge.

Well if there was nothing wrong or no issues in the first place taking it to the dealer would have been a waste of time. If you wanted a trans flush that would not be covered under the warranty so you would have ended up paying for it in the end. Like asburydan states the cabin air filter and engine air filter you have not changed those two out, do it now. Have you ever changed your engine coolnat? It is supposed to be done every other year. Other than those you pretty much are fine for now!

I would check your tranny fluid level. If it doesn't smell burnt or isn't low, you should be fine. I have 54,000 miles on mine and haven't had to change the fluid or add any yet.

I changed my coolant at 24 months (12,240 miles) - dealer put in Dexcool (said that was what was in there from the factory) and told me that was a 5 year coolant. That was 42 months ago - now at 31,000 miles. I'll probably change next time they run a special.

Opps- I just looked at my service records - I changed my coolant again 3-31-08 at 30,260 miles when the dealer had a $49 flush & Fill special. I think I'm good for another 3 years. I got a call from the Alzheimer's Association last week - I told them I couldn't remember who they were!

Look in the manual. there is a regular maintenance schedule there.

I assume that means there was 24 month coolant used originally from factory. But if you change to 5 year coolant, I think that you would not change that again at 24 months. These was some issue with Dexcool gelling so I would not want to leave it in for 5 years, but think it should be o.k. for longer than 24 months. So after 36 months I kept on the lookout for a coolant change special - and a few months ago (at about 40 months) the dealer had this $49 special. Wonder what the Matrix manual says.

Issues from DexCool stem from the system being low and or a leak. Keep it full and there are no issues. I think you are fine and doing the right things! My Corvette has DexCool and is stored during the winter. Every spring it is fine when I take it out of storage.
