Fender molding confusion

Post by skalogre »

My wife has a 2004 Vibe with the gray cladding. Now, the strips between the plastic cladding and the body itself are in various sorry states ranging from faded to completely missing. She checked with a local Pontiac dealership and she was told that the part was called "fender molding protector" (for the passenger side fender), but they were not exactly sure She was given a rather high quote to replace them all around (well over $200) so I am digging around for the parts myself.I have two questions here. First of all, is this part correct? I have found through some parts websites the part # 88972305 which seems to be the correct one (for the passenger's side fender at least). Also, anyone have any idea how they are actually installed? Do they just get wedged between the body and the cladding or do I need to take the cladding off completely? Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the part #'s,but when you remove the cladding, you'll have to replace all the 1 time only clips. Most of the cladding have 10 clips each, and at $3-$5 each,it gets expensive quick. The rubber goes into a track on the cladding itself and has a double sided tape on it,so you'll have to remove the cladding to replace the rubber.

Ouch. Thank you, Kevera. So I would need to look for the clips as well. Great. You wouldn't think such a simple part would be such a rigmarole to replace.
