Locking glovebox?

one of my consistent dislikes of the Vibe has been the lack of locking glove compartment. (BTW, does anyone keep gloves in theirs? I keep spare mittens.)Does anyone have any experience with converting their glovebox to something with a lock? Care to share pics or gripes of how easy/hard it was?thankses!

I remember someone on here adding a lock to their glove box but cannot remember who it was. If they are still on here maybe they will post up.

Never had the need for a locking box on my car. Not much of a deterrent since a good few pulls on the underside would rip it open anyways.

I never lock my locking compartments. The way I see it, if somebody did break into my car, I'm already out a broken window. And if they're stealing the ipod (or mittens) out of my center console, I'd rather just replace the window and the ipod, instead of the window, ipod, and trashed center console (or glovebox, in your case).

Typically keeping things in the center console or glovebox even without a lock can deter people. Smash n' Grabbers as their known will peek in a window, if something is visible, they smash, reach in and walk away. They don't wanna deal with the potential of sitting in a car rummaging with an alarm going off, or people walking by and seeing the glass and a man inside.

i wanna try to get a lock on my glove box or center console as well... its good if the poilce search your car they have to ask for permission again if the glovebox is locked..and at any time during the search of your car you can tell them to stop of course anways...but yah if someone is really dertermined..they get in there no matter whatid also like a lock because of carrying a gun in the car....

I'm not sure about the liability involved if I help someone hide guns in their car they don't want the cops to find out about.

Maybe you were joking, but if not... I think most states consider your vehicle as an extension of your private property, so having a gun in it is not illegal, except in DC or cities that don't allow handguns period. If in doubt, search your state laws or contact your local PD to ask.I've been told by an officer that a gun has to be on you, in your clothes, in a bag or something attached to you, for it to be considered a "concealed weapon." Which is not a crime when you have a CCW.

no this has not been a problem for me....just what i've learned attending criminal justice classes....most people dont know laws and stuff....not illegal if you have a permit to carry....

Wow, and I just wanted to keep my mittens safe!! A snatch-and-grabber probably won't be bothered with a locking glovebox, whereas a real-thief would probably be after my whole car or stereo, rather than ashtray change. So keeping a real thief out of a glovebox is a moot point.Seriously, it's more for the times that I have the car valet parked (pft, like that happens alot), at the dealership or mechanic, or someone other than me is borrowing the car. I keep an EZ-pass in the glovebox, along with an Exxon Speedpass, and those are easy to grab by any poor shlub. The lock is merely a deterrant, much like the Club I put on the steering wheel but never lock because I'm afraid I'll lose the key. PPl can't tell it's not locked, but it screams "steal the car next to me, it's a tad easier!"
