A lady at work here ordered a Vibe from the local dealer a month ago. She was told that 2003 Vibes were no longer available and that all they could order was 2004 cars. However they could not tell her the price and of course, seeing as we are in Canada, when the car would miraculously appear. When I visit the GM site at
http://www.gmcanada.com/english/vehicle ... tails.html and build a vibe, it is offering to build a 2003 car. Anyone have any insight?

I have noticed similar phenomena with car manufacturer's websites as well. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to update the website. It may very well be true that it is too late to order a 2003 Vibe now. The web guru for the site has to design and program the new model year's changes. No doubt that the graphics and features will be modified/changed for the new model year. If corporate hasn't decided on all the pricing details, that could be holding up the website changes. They would rather leave up last year's info so that a potential customer can still see the car and the vast majority of its features and options. The Vibe will largely remain unchanged for next year, so the 2003 models will still offer customers a very good idea of what the car is like. Pricing will be very similar as well, I would suspect. For a potential customer to tune in to the current model's info and see what the car is like is much better than just being directed to a link that says something like "site under construction, please check back soon". Someone just browsing the web is far more likely to never check back and go buy a similar car from another manufacturer who will supply them with some information.

The builds on the website are more for showing what options are available and the pricing of the complete car. You can build one and probably find a similar vehicle. On the other hand, the dealer has a 6 month lead time to get a custom built car from GM. By the time the vehicle would be built, the 2004 cars are well into production. I'm sure 2004 production will begin sometime in June to meet the August deadline.

mu-ohio - what August deadline? Is that when they should be available in dealers? I've been trying to find out but haven't heard anything.

Typically, the new model year shows up around August for vehicles without major changes. New major change models roll out really early or late it seems anymore.

What you are saying is that Canadian dealers will have to wait for Vibes until August! I would sure love to meet the people who decide how many cars Canadians will want. They probably can't keep their fridges stocked either.

quote:I thought 2004 model years can be built or take orders as of the 16th week of business. I was at the Toyota Dealer and Forder Dealer inquiring about the new F-150 and Tundra that will be coming out. They both stated, week 16 you can order them, that is next week! What? 2004 Pontiac Grand Prixs have been out for several weeks. The 2003 Pontiac Vibe started production in the last week of December of 2001, with dealers ordering the car starting in October 2001.The 2004s start production on May 5th and will be sent out to dealers as normal.

Thanks. That puts cars on the ground here starting in June. I will let my co-worker know.Wish I had ordered my car in Oct 2001. But I probably wouldn't have been on this discussion forum. Life is what happens when you are busy making plans.

I have a relative who recently started as a sales rep for the local GM dealership. She wanted to buy a Vibe. They have been advised that they will not be able to get any more 2003's (your co-worker got the right info Frosty), and that they have to order when 2004's were available-but no time frame as to when that would be!

Oh! So they really aren't accepting 2004 orders yet, therefore no build dates for some time.

Howdy! Newbie here. But - hopefully will catch up soon (frequenter of corvetteforum - and referred to here from there) Anyone got ideas on what may change from the 2003 --> 2004? Was looking at buying this month. But - interested at any info on what may change/improve with the 2004. Could wait - but that would risk losing the 0%.

There are still quite a few Vibes available at least in Ontario. I picked mine up last Monday. LOVE IT!!! My dealer took the time to check other dealers in the area for exactly what I wanted and had it within a week. If you use the inventory search on the GM Canada website, you'll see you can still get them! Now all I need is: Tint, CAI and Exhaust!!

Welcome KaBoOM! My co-worker is wanting a loaded Base monotone shadow and is happy to wait until June when her current vehicle's lease is up. Good to know there are still cars out there somewhere. There are none here.

I guess being in Thunder Bay, you are more limited! I live about an hour north of Toronto, so it wasn't a big deal for the dealership to bring one up.I guess by June, there probably won't be a lot left! Order now quantities are limited! (That's my best infomercal impression, great eh?)

Legally, a company can start selling '04s on Jan 1st ' 03. Anything later is their choice. To meet the usual Fall roll out, most companies change over in late June or early July. From their changeover date, they back up the order cut off date based on build rates and orders in the system. On average, this means around May you can no longer factory-order a current year vehicle, but individual specifics vary widely.

I found this website listing production dates. It says the last orders for 2003 were taken Feb 25 2003. Production for 2004 begins May 5th 2004! I'm assuming that's a typo and should be May 5th 2003. Otherwise we got a looong wait.
http://fleetnews.gmcanada.com/news_flas ... dules.html It's a GM Canada site for fleet vehicles, but I would think the production build date information would be the same for everybody.
