Power window lockout problem

I figured I would ask here before going to the dealer-when I have the passenger lockout on for the power windows I can't operate them from the drivers door either. The only way I can raise or lower the passenger windows is if I turn the lockout off first, From the sounds of the manual I should be able to raise and lower the passenger windows from the drivers controls even with the lockout on-is there something wrong with my setup?

That's normal and how mine works as well.

That's how mine works but I sure don't like it or consider it normal! I'm always using the lock out on my 7 year old, but when I unlock it for me he zips right to the button.

I meant it was normal for all Vibes.

It was that way for my Honda Civic as well. There must be some safety reason for it that escapes us

The Grand Am didn't do this. Why they didn't do the same for the Vibe is beyond me.

Since the engineering of the Vibe's interior controls is pure Toyota, I have to guess it may be a Japanese automaker perspective on how the window lock should function. Any American car I've ever driven with a window lock function (mostly Fords) allowed the driver to control all the windows while the lock was engaged.Anyone with experience with Japanese cars might know if the Vibe uses the standard design for such vehicles. Truth be told the Vibe is the first car I've owned that was largely Japanese.

Perhaps some wizard on this board could figure out a way to allow the driver the power by rewiring the lockout button. The driver's controls would have to be wired ahead of the lockout. Don't know if there is an easy way to do this without comparing the Grand Am to the Vibe wiring diagrams.

hmmm-after re-reading the manual it seems vague and even confusing to say the least. It says "The driver can still operate the left front passenger window with the lock-out button pressed". Ummmm--wouldn't the left front passenger window be the driver's window?

Ummmm--wouldn't the left front passenger window be the driver's window?Yeah, I read that and had to reread it a few more times just to make sure I understood what I saw.So apparently the manual is correct depending on how you read that sentence.
