2005 Factory Intake MOD

Post by Pbadgley »

I have been doing some reading and haven't seen anbody try this. Well I just spent about 1/2 an hour making a mod to my 2005 Vibe and man does it sound great. I know allot of peeps are looking for ways to put a CAI or SRI on their DBW Vibes for that awesome sound. Here is a mod it's actually quite simple and costs nothing. First remove the battery then the factory Air Box. You will notice the small tube that was attached to the Air Box that it about 2" round and 2 or 3 feet long. Just remove that tube put it all back together. It has a great sound especially when the lift kicks in. I will have to try a couple tanks of fuel to see if it affects my fuel mileage

I don't think base Vibes have lift.

So what are the downsides to removing the snorkel?

I did that to my 05 Matrix AWD. Sure the sound was a little better but mpg actually decreased cause the air is not flowing like it should. Plus you are pulling warm air from the bay and not the slightly cooler air from other areas.I grabbed the S/C intake tube from BC and slipped it on, goes right down to where the cool air is and fits stock.

I have a S/C tube in again as well, along with an aFe Pro Dry-S drop-in air filter.

Quote, originally posted by Pbadgley » I didnt know that I thought the VVT-i gave greater lift at higher RPMsLift is indeed only in the Vibe GT. Base Vibes have only VVT-i (no lift), but it is still the advanced timing that goes into every Toyota engine, only smaller advancement. VVT-i is 3 degrees more separation from the piston and the combustion chamber when the car hits a certain rpm. VVTL-i is some insane number like 8 degrees of separation, and Lift is more powerful and will kick in earlier than Honda's VTEC and Mitsubishi's MIVEC. I'm not allknowing on the subject, but I know that much. Hopefully that sets things straight lol.Man I wish I had lift...
