I would love to do something similar though more DIY. Something like a low-power laptop (or Eee Box) with a quick booting linux distro hooked up to ~7" touchscreen. It would control media, GPS nav(not sure if there's decent OSS software for this), maybe a webcam or two for security/evidence. I don't have a need for video screens in the back, maybe in a few years.

Its suprising that they only used a 533mhz processor as a base system, hell my first carpc had a 1 gig processor with 2 gig of ram and screamed for mercy. It would be interesting to see what the are asking for their base system. Ive been thinking of doing rear seat entertainment I have a couple 7in touch vga panels and an extra video card laying around, but then there is more power consumption that I would be using. I wonder what size and type PS they used in the car? It is kinda strange seeing PC manufactures offering incar computing before the big audio companies as well.Aron

I'm going to be doing much the same, at less than half the cost, with a modded xBox... I won't ever touch a CD in the car as it's got a 500g HDD, opticle output to my signal processor (Alpine H701) I could do nav if I want it, but I don't, don't need it... the rest of the computer functions are nice, but not needed if you ask me... I just hope I get the SQ out of it I want....

"You may modify your Xbox to run unsigned code without opening it by using a software exploit. Xbox Linux does not currently provide a software exploit which work on v1.6." and of course, i have 1.6
