took the husband and our daughter out to eat last nite, to a place called hilltop....the only time the awd lacked any oommph was on a long incline where it seemed frozen at 4200 and 50mph (even w/ the o/d off)...my husband commented to his sister and her husband that he wanted to take a "real" car to the diner, that my car wasnt a "road" car, that it should have come with a stick AND that it was for city use only!!! never mind the fact that we did between 65 - 70 mph all the way up there, thru curves and such and caught up with his sister's 2002 Tahoe about halfway there!!! he commented i should have gotten a kia sorento or a trailblazer for the power and comfort....next time i think he'll have to walk or take his '86 blazer diesel while kathy and i dust 'em on the curves, flats and even on the hills!! for those who have taken long journeys...how does your vibe/matrix do??

Kia Sorrento???Your friends sound like SUV fanatics. Anything that isn't an SUV doesn't deserve to taken on trips. You should direct your friends to this site: http://poseur.4x4.org/ It will educate them on what "road cars" are supposed to be. Basically, unless you off-road, or go on safaris, you should not be driving an SUV.To answer your question, I have not yet taken my Vibe on any extended trips. Since I have a GT, the ride tends to be rougher than a normal car and I tend to "drive it like I stole it" to take advantage of the power curve. I would imagine, that my passengers would be more comfortable in a different car, but we wouldn't get there as fast in a more "comfortable car".

I have driven on a few 4+ hour trips in my Vibe and am nothing less than pleased with the ride and performance. We're not riding a couch with wheels, but I think the Vibe is an excellent blend of performance and handling.
