I'm finally replacing the RSA's and was looking into a set of Kumhos. I have dedicated winter tires so I'm leaning towards these dedicated summers:Anyone have experience with these?

I believe I have the AST's and they are pretty decent...I would assume the SPT's are about the same.The AST's have a higher treadware rating (last a little longer) and are a little cheaper.. (in the 18's)So far I'm happy with them.. I don't drive my vibe like I drove my Civic, so I went with a good all around tire instead of a seriously sticky, better handling tire...

If you order from tirerack, have them shipped to The UPS Store in Ogdensburg, you'll save a bundle on shipping, brokerage fees etc. It's only 50 minutes from downtown.

I haven't had the SPT, but I have had a few sets of Kumho 712's, the predisesor to the SPT... they are a good tire that get a good amount of respect in the performance world... If you wanted to step up one better consider the Falken FK452... I just got a set for the Subie, <100$ a tire..!!!!

I drove down to Ogdensburg yesterday to pick up a new fridge and stove and no passport is needed, just driver's license and birth certificate.

definately going the ups route instead of shipping.what should i expect for duty fees?

Just to let you know passports aren't need for crossing the porter in a car. only by air. this will change June 2009

You'll likely pay PST and GST. Since Kumho is made in Korea and not part of NAFTA, they could charge you an additional 8% duty. I have bought many, many sets of tires from Japan, Korea etc. and they never charged me the 8%.

Hmm...I'm thinking I might get the local NY GM dealer to install the tires for me and save the duty fees. I already called them and looks like I can get in next weekend.

It's not worth it to save 13%tax. On a $350.00 set of tires it's only $45.00. They'll notice the new tires at the border and then you're @%&@ed. They know all the tricks and are very observant. If you do want to install them in Ogdensburg, go to Bill's. It's a small tire shop just off the main road and they only charge $15.00ea. install and balance. Go west(away from the border crossing) from the UPS Store and turn right at the Advance Auto Parts, continue about 1/4 mile past the McDonalds.

Update: still havent' gotten SPTs yet because I found a deal for 4 new Kumho 712's on Kijjiji for cheaper. hopefully I'll go pick them up over the weekend...http://kumhotire.ca/tires/deta...n=712

definitely alot smoother than the RSAs, although I don't drive all that crazy when the kid is in we're expecting rain for the next couple days, so we'll see how they handle

They should handle great in the rain. I have these tires on my vibe.
