Any idea if these would help?

I know the Evo MR has them (hence the picture), but are there any benefits to having something like this on the Trix or Vibe. They claim that on any slope less than 18 degrees or so that they disrupt the larger airflow that creates the big vortex which pulls your car back thus requiring more power to move forward. They create several smaller vortices that have a lot less of an effect being smaller.Sounds like something to help with fuel economy but I have not seen them on any other car than the Evo MR. I am wondering if it only works at higher speeds or if it is something that could be useful on our cars as an alternative to an expensive wider hatch wing.

I think it's a bunch of crap. I vote they are only for looks. If they do anything, it would be so minuscule you wouldn't be able to tell.

Will they help? Yes and no. Will help some, but not a noticeable amount. The car is simply to big for these on one contour to make a difference. The concept is there though. Wind Turbine manufacturers are starting to put these on the drag end of the blades to cut down resistance.

i think sk8tertrix(sp?) installed them on his. we need his opinion on them. I think they look kinda cool

That wouldn't help your car in the least... They get put on EVO's and similar (a small wing) on STi's... the vortex generator does just what everyone else has mentioned, just part got left out... By creating these vortexes, it allows for SOME of the air passing over the back of the car to make contact with the wing at high speed, in essence reducing lift on the rear... Many test have been conducted (and lots of data given) that neither the EVO or the STi, benifit from the wing below 90-100mph and neither produce any actual downforce, only a reduction in lift was noted... So, don't bother, unless you like the look...

As I noted I figured it was something that had to be beneficial at higher speeds.

Cool! I could put those on my upper wing for Uber downforce grip in the rear...

yup, high sppeeeeds. That tall spoiler on the SS cobalt actually produces like 180lbs of down force at over 120mph. and the little one does downforce but not as much. Testing showed that the high spoiler was good for tracks with lots of corners as it kept the back end pushed down more, but the small deck spoiler was better for just high speed and even allowed 5mph more than the high one...interesting.

You know how much engineering has gone into BOTH the STi and EVO and neither produce any actual downforce.... I would be shocked, and gladly eat my words if you could prove it...

These big wings, specifically on the STi and the Evo are nearly contradictions. They want them to provide downforce but minimize drag. Well, by minimizing one, you minimize the other.Back on topic, I don't think those will do much for you Whelan. I think they are just an aesthetic design.

Spoilers are not going to do you much good until you reach high speeds, 100+. Before that, most people would not be able to tell a difference.
