Just had the dealer tell me my high idle is being caused by the Throttle Position Sensor on my 2003 Vibe GT. They said when the car idling the sensor shows the gas pedal is 10% compressed and when the pedal is on the floor I am only getting 77% throttle. I have seen a lot of posts about high idle but nothing about the TPS. The dealer indicated the TPS needs to be replaces to fix the problem however it will cost $115 for the parts and $130 labour. They did say I can leave it as is without issue if I want to live with the high idle. I find it annoying and want to have it fixed so I thought I might try the repair myself. I found the TPS online for $60 but I have no ideal what is required to replace it. Has anyone taken this on? Any tips or a walkthrough would be appreciated.

have you checked your throttle cable first? maybe the throttle cable it to tight and is keeping the throttle butterfly open. Otherwise i think the tps is fairly simple. Ive never replaced mine but i think theres a couple members who have.

Thaks I have tried the cable and had some sucess. I have managed to get the idle speed down to about 1200. It was as high as 1800 for a while. I also used fuel injector cleaner. If any of the members have some tips or pics of thier TPS replacement I would love to see them since I am a very visual person.

its super easy to replace, it plugs into the throttle body I think. Page 8 of this pdf shows it:http://rtssva.com/model_reports/004-00019.pdfDIY in my opinion if thats actually the part that needs replacement.should look like this:

As North said it real simple to replace.Depending on how much work you want to do,you can either take the throttle-body off or reach behind it and remove the 2 phillips screws,just make sure when you replace it,that you get the D-shape in the detent on the butterfly valve. Oh,and don't forget to disconnect the battery.

Tell me about it. It looks like they are charging about 1.25 hours for a 10 minute job. Good deal for them.
