Isn't it tied to the price of crude ? It ought to be gigantic. My brother-in-law lives in Wasilla, and they are fat and happy with your State "Tax".

Alaska and Connecticut are the two highest states usually 1 and 2. CT is soon to be over $4 average for fuel. I paid $3.95 last night which is a bargain cause most places ate $3.99 or $4.03 for 87.

Then use that acct to pay for my gas and see how long it lasts.... That's how I see the PFD, it's like a gas rebate.

Here in Canukville (Canada) my fill up was crested $60.01 @ 4.65 bucks a gallon ($1.23 L). About 20% of that is tax. (Dollar is about par 1.03 USD to 1 CDN)No toll roads though, oh wait the 407 is a toll. Doh!

I have to fill up today. 90 oct only, not going to add any Torco. the 90 maps are pretty nice anyways. I'll save the gas guzzling map for Weds when I hit the drag strip.

I paid $4.13 for premium here in the OC a couple days ago, saw other stations selling it for $4.19. Paid $3.88 for premium in Vegas on 5/9 when I was there. This morning I passed a station selling diesel for $4.89 - that's gotta hurt.

I paid $1.23/litre yesterday. 1 Gallon =3.79 litres. Therefore I paid $4.66/Gallon.

Do Alaskan's still get an annual "dividend" from the oil revenue? Or are the Alaskan taxes next to nothing due to oil revenues paying the cost of govt?If so, they should count that toward their gasoline expenses.

As I already said above, I view my PFD as a "rebate" for what I spend in gas prices, travel expenses, and the mere fact that everything here costs a lot more than everything there in the rest of the 48 Contiguous States of the Union. When you pay $5/Gal for milk and get crappy 2 week old produce by the time it arrives, insanely over inflated shipping/freight prices, then you may complain about our PFD and no state income tax. I figure that's just a little to help offset all the other additional expenses and added cost of living to live in this great state of Alaska.

My point was nothing - I was not complaining - just curious if that was still going on. As you admit, it compensates for other hardships. I didn't even know that the "pfd" was the oil rebate or whatever - thought it was your work bonus.That said - milk is $5 a gallon in Florida too, and in Ohio our gas is nudging $4. Diesel if about $4.50. Also - I assume that wages are higher in Alaska to compensate for the higher cost of living. Many years ago my bro-in-law lived there and he made a bundle. My city income tax was about $2,500 last year, Ohio income tax about $6,000. I don't live in an exclusive suburb so my R.E. tax is only about $3,500 a year.So why do you live in Alaska - there must be something positive about it?

there is. I don't have to deal with over population, bums (not too many but enough per capita here), congestion, not as much crime (though per capita it's definitely there), beautiful scenery, and did I mention we're not over populated? Our economy is not dependent upon the rest of the country and while most may struggle with recession and fewer jobs, we remain stable and doing well. It's usually the opposite, we have a hard time finding GOOD workers who actually want to work.I have no state income tax, local sales tax, etc. I get a Permanent Fund Dividend check every year for living here which help offsets our inflated prices on freight and shipping. When I see $4/gal at the gas pump, yes it sucks, but it also means my dividend check will be more than $800 like it was a few years ago. Wages are slightly higher up here, but what sucks is that I have to pay more $$$ to crappy workers. I prefer to pay good money to good workers than waste it on bums who don't show up or don't do anything other than take up space and cost me $$$. Oh and I just got my property tax in the mail today, $4000. lame.and sorry, I misread your tone. *edit* Just filled up with 90 oct today at Chevron, $4.09/Gal. Diesel was $4.59/Gal!

Paid $5.30/US gal. at the local Shell yesterday. $5.49 for 91 premium.

I haven't filled up since the 6th, and that was at $3.55. I have about 1/4 left in the tank. Not looking forward to filling up today, I see the 'cheapest' I can find here is $3.79.

Filled up this morning 15 minutes south of Indy. $3.999 a gallon. Figure with the race & holiday weekend, it will be over $4 by tomorrow.
