Roof Rack and Cargo Box

Post by Scott99 »

The SportRack Explorer cargo box and GM utility bars are recomended for adding space to a Canadian 2008 Vibe.In May 2008 the cargo box was on sale at canadiantire.ca for $89CDN and it goes on sale several times yearly. An extra u-bolt mounting kit was $35CDN but some hardware from HomeDepot can be MacGyvered together much cheaper. The box also goes under the brand names of Karrite and Thule. Its HDPE not ABS plastic. The GM cross bars were $160CDN from the local Pontiac dealer. At $250 for a complete system its good value. The box is cheap feeling compared to $500 ABS versions yet it functions the same for casual weekend use of camping gear. The manual says the roof supports 150lbs yet there are many different lower numbers claimed. The box supports 100lbs. The antenna is in the way and needs to be unscrewed which you can do by hand. Anyone know a way to make a temporary stubby antenna?

so all your asking about is the antenna? correct?you can get a sharkfin that will sit just below the top of the cross barsor you can get a stubby from ebay, but i think they would still be in the way.

Yes that is correct. Its just one question about the antenna while the rest is an opinion on some products. The sharkfin is poor value at over $100CDN just to get some radio when outside urban areas. Personally I do not recommend ebay but many do.A stubby antenna is a great idea but unable to source anything other than a Honda Element OEM one at $40.Tried a piece of wire and some duct tape but an antenna is not that simple unfortunately.
