I have been looking for information on the winter tire law for Ontario. I have heard that they might be following Quebec's law but all of the information that I have found is a little out of date. Have any of you heard anything new?

I didn't know there was a winter tire law considering that you guys don't allow studded winter tires. You guys saying there is a law now requiring winter tire use or no winter tires allowed in the summer?

Right now Quebec is the only province mandating winter tires from November to April. Ontario was (is?) considering it but thats it so far.

I wish. I'd be in favour of either this or an insurance discount if you're running winters in Alberta.

It makes sense in Quebec because literally every corner of the province gets a lot of snow. Montreal has the highest snow clearing budget of any city in the world. Quebec City averages about 8-10Ft. On the other hand a large portion of the Ontario population lives in Southern Ontario where they get an occasional snow storm and some areas get almost no snow at all.

I am just looking to see if anyone else has heard if it is being pushed forward or not. The boss and I need new rubber for her car and we are waiting to see if it will be mandated for the winter tires from like Dec-Mar. If so then we need to get winter tires for the two cars but the truck will just be covered for those months.

There is no Ontario winter tire law.I haven't even taken my winter tires off yet let alone talk about putting them back on. Heck, summer hasn't even hit yet!

Sputnik thanks for the MPP idea. I just emailed him but I am anticipating the typical no direct answer routine. The only information that I am going by are some older news reports.http://network.nationalpost.co....aspx

Studded tires are legal everywhere in Canada except south of North Bay Ontario. Its only if your postal address is south that its illegal with a fine "up to $1000". No points are associated with the fine. Some in eastern Ontario choose to stud. You have to weigh the potential fine cost to the risk on todays roads. The Goodyear Nordic from canadiantire.ca is studable and a recommended tire either studded or not.
