Well, actually I was a bit over $40. It came to $41, I put 10.99 gallons in the car at $3.73, cheapest in town. By next fillup I am sure they will all be over or at $3.80.

The unmitigated greed of Citibank and other big banks and the resultant Fed interest rate cuts to help bail them out have caused the interest you get on your savings to plummet so you might as well try to get some of it back this way.

I just did 2 fillups this week (I usually do 1.5 tanks per week with my drive)One on the Vibe 42.00 for 11.5 gallons @3.65/gal of 87And another on the Subie of 10.5 gallons @4.01 for 94...

Some gas stations around here charge you to use a credit card instead of cash or debit. Which is ridiculous. They are talking about some kind of gas tax holiday but it would benefit the retailers, not the consumers. Although I think it would help cause if you make 25 cents a gallon at say 3.70 (this is all hypothetical), why not drop it another 5 cents to undercut the guy across the street.

Makes sense because it saves the station the credit card fee. In that case you have to do the math and compare the price difference to the credit card reward. Also with pay at the pump it can save a lot of time by using a credit card.

I have been riding my cycle (58mpg) and the wife has been driving the Vibe so the higher price has not hit us so hard. When the temperature goes above 100 I'll be back in the Vibe and wife back into her premium gas guzzling car (350Z). Maybe she should have got a Miata instead.

Although I think it would help cause if you make 25 cents a gallon at say 3.70 (this is all hypothetical), why not drop it another 5 cents to undercut the guy across the street. Having worked at a gas station and been responsible for adjusting prices based on fuel delivery costs, I assure you that the station is not the one making a lot of money on gas sales. They make their money on in store sales, not at the pump. The pumps just get people to stop.As someone else mentioned, stores pay about 3.5% to the credit card companies on sales with a card. Retailers are passing the savings on to the customer when they charge less for a cash purchase. Most gas stations make about 3 cents per gallon. If they cut the price by 5 cents they will shortly not be able to replace the fuel, hence the "out of gas" sign goes up. On the other hand, taxes average 50 to 60 cents per gallon, depending on where you live. I think the federal share of the tax is about 30 cents, the rest is state. So, if the feds suspend the tax for a month it will save me about $10 total...whoopee!

But remember I have an AWD so my tank is smaller than a GT or base, and I only use 87.

I remeber my senior year it was 97 cents a gallon and I remeber thinking it being this cheap its worth it just to go cruising around, now unless I have plans I sit at home.

$42.00 today at $3.73 a gallon, put just about 11 gallons in.Seems to be holding for the moment in CT, I hope. If you live in CA near the border, wouldn't it be more effective to drive over to the US to get fuel. Or do you pay a fee to cross the border?

5.8 gallons @ $3.41... $20.. so if I had an empty tank... I guess i would have seen $40.. I usually fill up about every 10 days, and it's usually about a half tank.

Lucky for me I've not yet experienced it. I rarely let the tank get down to less than a quarter tank, so fill-ups are usually around 9 gallons. The most I've paid so far has been $3.549 per gallon/US/87.

HA!! @%#& Suburban owners. I thought $35-$40 five years ago was outlandish when I had my truck. Let me do the math here, 22 gallon tank in my Dakota at $3.40 a gallon equals...who cares!! I get 30 mpg now.
