Ihave been looking around at oils and filters, and Iwas in advance the other day getting filters when Inoticed purolator had an "upgrade" on the pureone. It had a sandpaper paint coating, but it looked like the regular purolator on the inside. Also I noticed sand from the pain on the ring gasket, so needless to say I got the older version.But I doubt I would buy the new one after seeing it, in person.

I just put one of the new ones on my car. I liked the improved grip, but I didn't look at the internals. What did you see?

it looked like the base purolator filter on the inside other than the oring which was a different color . did you notice any of the grit on the ring itself Like I did?

nice a better grip canister...could of used that when i had the vibe.

I ues'em all the time and inspect and SHAKE each one before putting it on, Why do I shake it, well, after reading about someone who found all sorts of crap in a new filter (not Purolator BTW) I just make it a habit.. QC is not 100% grippy stuff is just marketing, get a good filter wrench and grippy suff means nothing...

grip stuff helped me on the ford's i used to have when we used the fram ones. I like it but thats me.Sub - yeah I check all my filters too, you never know what could be in them.

I used to use the Advance Auto Parts generic filter on an old Ranger I had; it was actually a Purolator Premium Plus w/the some orange grippy texture sprayed on it. I loved the fact that you didn't need a filter wrench to get it off...but I didn't like the overspray on the endcap, so I quit using them.However, if you like Pure Ones, just go buy Bosch Premiums; they are Pure One knock-offs...silicon anti-drain back valve, almost the same amount of filtration media, etc (search on BITOG for specifics). I buy them from Checkers/Shucks/Kragens when they go on sale...usually 2 for $6; that might be over now though, since O'Reilly's bought CSK.

To be honest I am not sure, but considering the grit was incorporated into the paint itself, and the particles on the o right were of that size I suspect grit that rubbed off the paint, but i guess it could all be considered the same thing since they are technically the same.I suspect it was one of those things that sounded good on paper, but the actual product is less than advertised.I guess take a look at it yourself and decide that way, but I will probably avoid them until the product is rated or someone hacks one open and says it is a better product than their base filters.
