Difference between AWD and FWD '03 engines?

I haven't had any luck finding an engine for my Vibe yet but it appears there are a ton of AWD engines. Any idea how much of an issue it would be to fit an AWD into a car that had a FWD engine? I'd think there wouldn't be much difference, but I know they have different HP ratings. They're both listed as 1ZZ-FE though.

i could be wrong ( i often am) but i think they're the same engine. the drop in horsepower i think is in the weight of the awd system and the exhaust configurationgood luck

AWD refers to the transmission, not the engine. Therefore any engine will work except the 1.8L 2ZZ from a XRS or GT.

Yes any engine except the 2jz engine will work. The FWD and AWD Vibes have the same 1zz-fe engine, but the FWD produces more horsepower....125 horsepower stock. Pontiac claims 130 but thats not true. If you want to be racing your car, go for the FWD..its lighter and will produce better results. But either way, 1.8L 4 cylinder engines are easily the best engines to modify. There's much more space.

any 1zz from a Vibe (AWD, FWD) or a Matrix, or a Corolla with a 1zz will work. The 2zz from the GT won't work. The lower HP rating for the AWD is due to the routeing of the exhaust system.

One member actually dyno'd his 03 and with the usual loss in transmission it looked like they had been underated.I am still of the opinion that the 03 1zz was underated.

The vibe engine isnt underrated. It's overrated. The celica GT has overall better components, thus the 140 horsepower rating. The celica is also lighter. I raced a stock celica GT (automatic). I had my short ram and a throttle body spacer and we started from a dig and did a quarter mile. My first gear pulled on him by 1 and a half cars. Then from second gear until the end, he stayed a car and a half behind me, meaning we were both pushing 140 horsepower. My intake gives me 7, and the spacer gave me 8 horse and 10 torque.
