Quick Question..i have noticed on the older versions that the roof of most Vibes have a roof rack on them (that is what gm.ca is calling them) but when i see the 09's in dealer lots or on the road, the roof racks seem to have gone horizontal rather then vertical..and the dealers are calling them " Roof luggage carrier".older version of roof rack http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=32540Newer version?? http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=32618Does anyone know if this was done for design reasons? I really like the look of the older roof rack...

yep..older models were pretty much just the vertical ones that you can add the horizontals if you wanted too..with the new version('09) it's a total new option whether you want them or not..wish they had this open on the '07s

Thanks WaveAction..I do really want one, but i think the 09's (atleast here in Canada) the roof racks all seem to be horizontal...instead of the standard vertical on the older models..(which is really what i want)...is it a big deal...i dunno...i find the roof rack does add a "sportier" look to the car...I'll have to clear it up with the dealership...

hmm well the newer models..if you do get the option then the rack would be horizontal(side to side) then the previous models(front to back) but i personally think it looks "sportier" without the rack..you dont see ferraris with a sport rack..do ya? lol

HeyThey do look sporty....only one problem......GM hasn't come out with attachments and right now I'm looking into some after market racks. The problem being my sport bag would sag in the centre and dent the roof not to mention the straps are just long enough to attach but not for my comfort(tie atleast one knot)I picked up my 2009 Vibe (2.4 L) last Tuesday and lovin it!!!!!!!!!The new car smell has gone .....replaced with the "wet dog smell"LOL!!!!

I have a roof bag that I use for long trips and I cut a piece of plywood to fit the inside diameter of the bag. This way, the bag rests on the cross bars(03-08 Vibes) or on the rack (09 Vibe) and does not sag and dent the roof. FYI- The 09 Rack is rated for 132lbs. The 08 and earlier racks were at 75lbs of weight.
