Welcome,You have excellent taste in cars.My last car was a Honda Civic too and now I have a 2004 Vibe base like yours. I've had the Vibe for 2 years and really enjoy it. 2004 Tips: Get the Owner's manual (my Vibe did not have one). Make sure your battery is tested and the water pump.Since I’ve started reading this Vibe site in January I have been inspired to do the following but my Vibe has more miles (62,000) than your modest (30,000) lucky you.:1.Discovered I had a FILTHY cabin air filter and replaced it with one from NAPA by following a GenVibe tutorial.2.Downloaded a 2004 Owner’s manual and changed the way I wear my seatbelt and adjusted the headrest to increase safety.3.Had my wimpy battery tested and after it flunked the test – it was replaced.4.Since the car now has 62.000 miles and the owner’s manual had a long list of maintenance to do at 60K-oops slacker driver. I went to a trusted mechanic and had it checked from bumper to bumper and he found the water pump needed to be replaced, thermostat, belt, heater hoses and radiator hoses and a new radiator cap. 5. Then a special shop flushed the automatic transaxle fluid, and cooling system and that made a HUGE IMPROVEMENT. I’m sure I’ve made a good investment and prevented problems since I hope to drive this to 200K!! Now my Vibe purrs.6.Stereo: My CD player has never worked so I’ve been limited to radio! Since I invested $$ on #4 above I had to be thrifty so I followed someone’s advice and found a salvaged Vibe stereo at LKQ on Ebay from a 2005 Vibe on clearance for $27.00 + $15 shipping !! We installed it and it works great.

well i took delivery of the vibe.i checked out the fluids to make sure everything was topped up.one concern i had was the coolant overflow tank was empty, even had cobwebs on the spout under the cap. plus while the engine was at operating temp (fan kicking on) i could smell coolant, that sweet smell.any suggestions on what to do? i know from previous poster that the water pump likes to go on these engines.i plan on bringing it back to the dealer and have them look at it.

I would take it back to the dealer just to be on the safe side. It sounds like they may have missed something during the Pre-delivery Inspection.

If you even think it is running warm SHUT IT DOWN and have it towed.I ruined my piston rings in an 86 civic(began burning oil), and threw a rod bearing in a 4 runner driving them hot.Have you had a mechanic check it out yet?Oh and congrats I got my 05 last week, and like it a little more every minute I own it.

Welcome. Wow, an '04 with 16K miles. This is the best forum I have found. You'll be glad you came on board (and most importantly, got a Vibe).

temp is ok, did some reading on here, and looks like this engine likes to sip a teeny tiny coolant. open loop cooling system.so it looks like prev. owner never checked the coolant.i tore the dealership a new one , for not completing the pre delivery inspection. so it back at the dealer for a top up and pressure test.love this site , so many concise instructions on DIYs.1rst step, remove dealer badges and dealer plate moulding.2nd . cabin filter w/ furnace filter. wow what room in the engine bay!!. oil changes look like a breeze.
