blew a fuse

Post by hskater26 »

i was driving to work yesterday and hit a bump and my radar detector and head unit all shut off.......i checked my fuses under the steering column and noticed i blew the cigg lighter fuse which im guessing supplied power to the head unit.....any ideas on why that would blow, i only have one thing plugged into my center console outlet and its my radar detector and nothing in the other one

Giving my best guess, some wire some place after the fuse has a bare spot that touched a ground (almost any other metal part) when you hit the bump. It could be a connector or a wire that has insulation worn off.

Sounds like a short to me. You might want to get the wire diagram to find where it is,

i just pulled out to my head unit ( i had it intsalled by circuit city) and i found the tip of one wire sticking through the electrical tape and another that was sorta exposed so i fixed those and replaced the fuse.......well see if that fixes it....i drvoe around for 10min looking for big bumps and it didnt short haha
