Bad speaker or amp?

For awhile now, my front drivers side speaker hasnt worked. The tweeter and the other speakers work fine. I took out the factory HU and tested the system with an Alpine one, still no sound from only that speaker, so it isnt the HU. So, now I'm down to speaker or amp. I'm guessing a voltmeter testing would work...somehow. Also, is this page contain the correct wiring diagrams for the radio/amp?http://www.metraonline.com/dow...6.pdfIf not, anyone have one? BTW, I have M&T's.

That sure looks like the right diag. for it.. you'll need to unplug the harness and find the correct wire, probe it and see what you get... the problem is, the tweeter isn't on a seperat line, it's just Y'ed off the same harness running into the door.. so it might not show you much... BUT, if you were to pull the door panel and remove the speaker, and test there, you may definitly see something.. If the tweeter works and the woofer doesn't it sounds like something burnt "to open" rather than shorted out, otherwise the tweeter wouldn't work either..

Well, before the speaker went out, I did smell like an electronic birning type smell. I was hoping it was only the HU, since I have those laying around, but it wasnt. Guess I'll start poking around when the weather gets better.

From my experience I think its the speaker. If the amp fired then you wouldn't get any sound at all. I would have to say Speaker or a wire from the amp to the speaker. GL

Did a little more looking into it. Seems I get highs from the speaker. Thats it. No bass or anything, so I'm assuming it's a blown speaker?

No, from the speaker in the drivers door.

once i get my amps "re"re-placed, i'll take pictures of what i did, and make a youtube video with sound, if you are putting subs, don't do what i did and get two 12 alpine type Rs, it leaves no room in the trunk, get one (or two) 10 inch shallow mounts

I seem to be having the same problem with my 2004 VIBE with Moon & Tunes set up. All speakers working EXCEPT the drivers side TWEETER. Just put in a new Pioneer P4000UB head unit so the lack of a tweeter is really emphasized. Anyone have a way to test this or a solution found?THANKS
