Ok, thinking of trading in the '03 for an '09. So I go online to check out the going values. I check out KBB, Edmunds, and NADA. I am shocked to see the difference between the sites. Kelly comes in the lowest - $8,150.Edmunds is in the middle - $8,407.NADA is the highest - $10,725.Anybody know what NADA is so high compared to the other 2? Isn't the NADA guide typically what the dealers use? I certainly like their value better that the other 2!

I'm surprised that edmunds came in the middle. From what I've seen they tend to low-ball.

I have had very good luck selling my used cars privately vs. trading them in. Many times just a sign in the window will do it. The last time (August 2007) I resorted to paying about $60 for a 10 day newspaper ad.I had a 2004 T&C SWB in excellent condition - 23,000 miles. Dealer offered me $7,000 in trade. CarMax offered me $9,000. I sold it for $11,500. CarMax was advertising a no haggle price of about $13,995 for similar vans on their lots. Fortunately the buyer had cash from a recent stock sale.

nada always seems to be high, of course you wont really get what you want, you can only get what people will pay for. Good thing the vibe is now a wanted car. just see what a trade in will get you otherwise sell it private party, craigslist or carsoup.

In my experience, dealers sell for KBB and offer less then that for your trade. You want to find market values which are usually lower then any book because well, it is what the market will bare for a car. I always say if the vehicle has issues, trade it in. If not sell it on your own. My wife had a 1991 Olds, dealer would only give us $500. Obviously the dealer did not want the car. We sold it for $1,400 in 2 weeks to an Elvis Impersonator too!
