Hi Folks & Hitch Question

Post by AusTxVibe »

Hi folks! New member here. Just got my '07 vibe a few weeks ago & I love it! I do have a question though & I hope someone can help...I bought a Hidden Hitch tow bar so I can put a bike rack on, but the hitch has a "stopper" on the side of the receiver (little indentation that won't allow the rack adapter to go in as far as it needs to) & so the holes for the bolt don't line up. Ug! Anyone have the Hidden Hitch w/ the "stopper" and a bike rack that works w/ it? The Yakima 1 1/4" adapter doesn't work with it. I think I'm going to try a Thule rack next & see if I have luck w/ that, but maybe y'all know something I don't...I love this forum. Thanks!

This might be kind of a goofy thought...The stopper that's preventing alignment isn't something that's removeable (say inserted there for shipping) is it?How far does the rack insert into the hitch? It may be possible to drill a new hole in the rack and use a cotter pin (or something similar) to lock it in.

Hi,I too am a cycling fan preferring to carry the bikes behind the car. I don't have a hitch on the Vibe, but had one on other vehicles. Perhaps the problem lies in the adapter. Maybe a rack for a 1 1/4" receiver that does not require an adapter will work. BTW, I bought the new Saris rack. It is very light and holds the bike(s) by the wheels only. (It is still in the box.) I don't believe it requires an adapter.http://www.saris.com/p-298-thelma-2-bike.aspxGood luck and safe cycling!

Mine has a stamped notch in it. Must be a safty thing to keep the right size hitch or what ever you want to plug into it. might drill the notch out of the hitch.

You guys make me feel all warm & fuzzy with all the welcome notes - thanks! And Digger, you're right, it's a stamped notch like your's. I'm going to try another rack & if that doesn't work, the suggestion to drill it out is great! A big hello to my Austin neighbors! I never noticed Vibes too much until I bought one & now I can't help but to give a little wave when I pass someone else driving one. Maybe I'll see you around Central Austin. I'll try to post a pic soon. Enjoy the weekend! It's 90* here!Cheers!

Can you shorten it (the part that plugs in) a little with a hack saw?
