Quick question to all you vibe lovers....from my view maybe its a stupid ??

Hey guys I know some of you and some know me. I have been on all of the related forums for years now mainly 9thgen. I really love all different types and styles of cars, modded or not but I noticed something. I was checking out most of the pics in the Garage area of the different Vibes and is it me or do none of you lower or drop your car. I know I am used to being slammed and I know thats not common but really most look like they are barely lowered is that just me guys. There are some very nice cars here don't get me wrong but somemany of them would look 100 times better if they actually look dropped. Well just thought to ask whats up with that and if its just me. If anyone wants to post up some pics preferably side view for stance and the suspension being used that be cool.

I know it cost money but even with the Tein Stechs on the vibe I still don't think I would say thats a lowered car if it rolled pass me. I know to a stock vibe there is a difference but they really don't get tucked at all. Just throw up the pics to see the diffrent dropsImma (removed) it up with some old pics before when I was on Tein SS coilovers. I don't wanna make anyone feel left out so I won't post the bagged shots. LOl kidding guys but let me see some different set ups maybe coilovers???Mine back in the day on CoiloversThe Teins got down I just needed more meaning I wanted to sit on the ground.LOLI would definitly tell anyone looking for coilovers to grab them, the ride is great and are easily adjusted, worth the money IMONow post those dropped vibes guys, I know your out there

Could be that they just start out too high.

I know there are lots lowered I have been around a while but I just noticed that honestly some of the Vibes dropped on Stechs look barely lowered and stock.... no offense and thats from a Non vibe owners eyes. They come jacked I guess and I thought the Matrix and corolla were like 4x4

Yeah, but at the same time, it'd be nice to clear a speed bump. And not everyone likes the look... I guess

I am lowered.

No matter how much it might be lowered, a Vibe/Matrix is still a very tall wagon. To me it just looks odd to have this tall wagon body style and then lower it to the point where it scrapes on every pothole and steep driveway.Seems like the current fashion is to either take a car style that's already pretty low, like many Hondas, and drop them so they barely clear the pavement, or to take a tall truck or SUV and raise it to where it's hard to get in and looks like it'll tip over if you're not careful. There's something to be said for a more moderate approach.

my Vibe was lowered, as was the wife's.

+1 prathmanif you look at the stock ground clearance of a corolla vs. the vibe the vibe is much higher than that of a corolla therefor taking more than 3" to make it "slammed" and no spring kits lower that much.

Bagged FTW!!Well get some pics up so I can see the different drops with the various suspension combos being used.

Bought the AWD to use the AWD, so dropping it defeats the purpose of the car for me I'm afraid.

Seeing the problems people have had with those fancy air ride suspensions, no thanks. (*cough* damronjr! ) I have enough problems not destroying my car at stock height on the roads.Personally, I'd never even install lowering springs. I hate what it does for the ride and what it does for "looks" can never make up for that. I don't have to go throw up every time I see this "wheel gap" or whatever. Doesn't bother me a bit.Lowering is all personal preference.... Not everybody likes it or has to do it.

Wow getting dissed by a rolla on a Vibe forum. And (removed) V,3/4 of people on that list aren't even here anymore,I must not be special enough to make it.The Vibe sits higher than the trix, look at my sig.I scratch the **** out of my front lip,so If I was bagged I would destroy it.

well I could care less what some rolla owner says. I like my 2.5" drop. I have people ask me all the time if I lowered mine

Here is a photo I took when I installed my S-techs and 18s almost 4 years ago. They do make a significant difference. Here is side shot after completion: I personally do not like the completely dropped look with the wheels tucked inside the wells. In my opinion I think it looks a little ridiculous, but to each their own. If you like it, that's all that matters. I like my set up.

And it doesn't matter if there still on here, they are still memebers.

I spend way too much time playing to drop mine. I would tear the undercarriage apart.

Some (most) Simply enjoy their suspension travel... it's simple... and they almost ALL pass the GF test (well, for those of us with GF's with large bresticles, that is) The Vibe is a different car, it's a SUM Sport Utility Mini...lol... there are plenty hear trying hard to make into something it's not, a performance car, but that is there particular and personal choice.. Like you, you have a corolla, you've dumped thousands of dollars into and for what? Looks... ok... that's all you... Also, like already stated, most of us are putting money into the "mistress" or the other car... I fall into that category.. my "Mistress" In fact, I just sent payment on a used set of these.... Yummy...

I actually like the stock ride hight of my Vibe. My mom's getting up there in age and it's easier for her to get in my Vibe at this height.I have nothing against people who like lowering their cars, but it's not my thing.Same with those who put in a turbo. Some people like it, other's either can't afford it or don't care for it.That's the great thing about doing mods, we all have our choice as to what we can do and there is quite a few options out there.

Hey Slammedrolla, around these parts, something as slammed as your Corolla is called a snow plow this time of year. I can't imagine you gettin' around too well in anything more than a dusting of snow on a really smooooooth road. If you lived here and were slammed that far, you'd be walking a lot. Even after the roads are cleared, we have to get over the frost heaves (big freaking bumps and dips). Give me clearance or get scraped. By the way, your Corolla looks great.

To each their own, but I've never considered 'dropping' any of my vehicles, and I don't ever plan on it. It's just not my thing. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but my time isn't spend mod'ing my cars. I buy a car because I like the way it looks, not because I want to change the way it looks. My time and money are better spent doing other things. I bought all weather mats for both cars, and tinted the front windows of my Murano - how's that for mods. (no offense to anyone that enjoys mods by any means!)

My AWD was lowered on Hotchkis springs for about a year. The car looked awesome lowered 2+" however the AWD exhaust is routed underneath the independent rear suspension so I would scrape on speed bumps. Can't avoid them, unfortunately, especially the 4 at the my new job. Also the ride gradually became worse, especially with all of the crappy roads around here. So, I took off the Hotchkis and had my oem springs modified so I have a 1" drop. It looks better than stock and rides better than stock or with the Hotchkis. It will never look as good as it did with the Hotchkis, but I would rather have comfort and driveability than looks. i might be looking into new OEM replacement KYB-GR2 shocks and struts this year because my oem shocks and struts were compromised after using the Hotchkis for a year and the ride is starting to get rough, it might just be because it is still cold out, so the jury will be out until summer, if I still have the car that is. But, I agree that the Vibe definitely looks better with a drop than stock, it's just not practical for most people since the average age of a Vibe owner is greater than the average age of a Corolla owner. Good question though!

Like I said guys I am a car lover of all types modded or not. I made this thread just to see the various drops and am not dissing anyone so why are people dissing on me.. I like them low and some don't I know I just wanted to see the different drops but I guess that was rude of me to say and ask why it doesn't look so low. Sorry to everyone i'll just keep quit and just ask stuff on 9thgen about my own carAnd yes I drive a civic during the winters here in Toronto. I would never try to go out even though my bags get the rolla higher then stock. Its only my fun car and I put alot of money into it yes and some like ^^^^ say thats its a corolla but I work with what I have. I got it new in 02 and got stuff bit by bit, I gett deals at toyota from my mom thats why I have the rolla. Again sorry guys and to each is own when it comes to there car you wanna hate no sweat off my back if thats what u like to do

when i do get lowered, i wont be tucking, but it will be low like my sunfire was, believe it was 2 inches in the front and 2.5 in the back..not all cars have to have wheels "tucked" to be considered low, even with my sunfire as low as it was i was still scraping my side skirts(the metal strip for jacks n stuff) along the speed bumpheres a pic, aint tuckin but was a nice ride that was low enough for me the 2nd pic is stock height with the rims before i sold the car

My first drop was barely noticeable on Eibach Prok-kits. Then came ST lowering springs, then Hotchkis, then airbags! lol I think a lot of Vibes get lowered, but a lot of people here are scared to drop their rides due to road conditions in their areas and/or fear of "messing up their ride".

personally, i'd like to be as low as possible, but i find it just to be a hassle to have to have a box with switches just to go over a speed bump, and all the lines and the air compressor/tank, and im sure alot of folks here dont wanna lose their spare tire to an air tank just to have their ride low

Posted: Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:28 pm
by slammedrolla
No need for a big box now thats old school. LOL. And they are fun and very easy to use anytime u need it but what I have now and whats new is a digital display switch panel that is as easy as turning on your car stereo just hit a button. As for the spare tire I took mine out due to weight but under my air ride set up in the trunk is empty and I could get to it anytime if I still had the spare tire. It is alot and many people don't want it or can't and won't spend that much on it. For me I have had many friends how have it and I have been around bagged cars for years and always wanted it myself. I never could afford it or wanted to spend that kinda money but eventually I treated myself like alot of people do with whatever the case is. I love it and have fun with it as much as possiblehere is the switch panel and also my trunk which I can get to under the Diamond plate we built.

thats a nice setup you got there. is the compressor loud? like can you hear it inside the cabin?

If I had the money I think that I would go with a coil over set up. I love the way cars look bagged, but I still enjoy having a little suspension travel. The reason I went with s-techs is because they are extremely affordable compared to coil overs or air bags. Yeah, I could go for lower, but I make the best with what I have.

^^^^Thats cool and atleast your droppedThanks for the comment about my set up the compressors are not the loudest i've had and heard compared to whats out there. You do hear them no doubt but its a calming hummmm and not loud at all.

shoot..I'm slammed...not to the point of bags..but I think most who mod vibes that is one the first mods...Hey slammed I'm like you I like all types of mods..whether extreme or whether mild...it's all individual taste...Keep the mods coming

I don't know who exactly you were refering to, but, personaly I wasn't "baggin" on ya man, just stating facts... Vibes are more utility than performance/looks, so many tend to keep it that way from what i've seen, there are quite a few mods happening, just 95% of them aren't as extreme as yours... and please, don't get me wrong, I love what you've done with the Rolla... While it "may" not be "my" style, I give props to anyone doin mods..

i'd get bags but 1, their alot more then springs are, 2 i use the back alot with golfing and stuff, and 3 since i wouldnt take the spare out, and the compressor being left out, it'd get really annoying since it's an open hatch unlike a truck where you got a full seat in front of it to block out 80% of the sound
