Concept: Chopped, Flared, 2 Door, Panel Vibe

Just for fun, and out of curiosity... an additional body concept for the Vibe.- Chop it- flare the fenders- wider stance (wider tires/offset to match)- convert to 2 door- fill in rear windows for a panel side look- Edit: roof rack removed...Animated GIF showing before after. 5 second delay between frames. It'll never happen but fun to think about what could be if someone had too much money and too much time on their hands...Thoughts?

... revision #3. Dropped body panels lower around the wheels (stock-like body kit).

Its just fun to mess with...I was trying to go for some old school rodding design elements to see what would come of it. I'll keep playing

Very cool. Just needs a mid-engine aluminum V8 and I'd buy it.

Good work! Not sure I'm digging the whole thing, but some awesome ideas there! The stock-ish kit and fender flares look cool, not liking the fastback roofline or windowless rear of the car though.

I like the ver 3, Not so much for the filled in windows, but because the body kit looks molded in like the 09' much smoother...

IMO, with all that paneling on the side and no roofrack with the egg look now, it really looks like something a girl would find on aisle 3 of the adult store.

My brother in law said reminds me of a "male unit". I think it needs a rear engine mount with air intake on the sides, and a small downforce wing on the top-back. More to come! Thanks for the concepting comments guys!

I liked Raven's idea... so, here's the scenario. After chopping the roof off I had lotsa space to work. So, after getting a hold of an LS6 Corvette drivetrain from a junk yard and ordering a custom made Moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears, I built a new subframe and small roll cage and mounted the engine using an elephant ear where the rear seats used to be. Rear end is mounted with a Chassis Engineering 4 link, trac locator and coilovers. An insulated double firewall with a thick plexiglass window seperates the driver from the motor. Two cold air intakes reside behind the air scoops up top, and brake ducts have been added to aid in cooling the rear discs. Exhaust now exits just in front of the rear wheels. The Vibe now goes 0-60 in an almost uncontrollable 3.8 seconds. What do you think? .. .. .. ... .too much?

That would be one hell of a drift car...lol... Only problem, would be getting the engine far enough forward to mate up the tranny and rear end, and with that your tail shaft yoke and rear and yoke would be linke with just a single U joint... so the engine itself would have to pivot with rear suspension travel.. lol...

That is so true! I wouldnt have any travel without a driveshaft Maybe a tiny muncie 4 speed would work better... or I'd have to go with a smaller motor. Maybe a Buick GN turbo V6.... or a screamer of a 4 cylinder. It would be rediculous either way. I guess a simple front engine, rear drive conversion might be the best approach. Hmmmm.... I see front seats moved back...firewall moved rearward... a revised transmission tunnel, and a monster of a hood scoop for clearance... oh and winning the lotto. I have lost my mind, but having fun doing it!

I like the flares much better now. I would personally stretch the hood, drop the V8 up there, make it RWD and bulge the hood up like the Caddy CTS-VDo-able since my uncle was working with a V10 Dodge engine (aka Viper motor) and trying to elongate the front of his PT Cruiser to fit it in.

I have lost my mind, but having fun doing it!You know, a BUILT Subaru motor would do the trick VERY nicely... wink wink, nudge nudge... Super compact, already set up for RWD, easy acess to parts, proven to run with the "big dogs" 450hp DD would be EASY, besides the fab work... AND if you were to use an independent rear end, you really wouldn't have to worry about driveshaft issues.. I think we should put this together... lol... you funding after your imenient lotto win... lol

Sublimewind, I like it! Ok, as soon as I hit the lotto, I'm moving to Motown and we're gonna build this thing! We'll call it, "The car that nobody wanted but we built it anyway!"And to be purists maybe we could stick with the 1ZZ motor, but we'll hook up with Monkey Wrench Racing for the stage 4 motor, and work with them to integrate a turbo! http://monkeywrenchracing.com/....htmlMonkeywrench Racing2287 E. West Maple Rd. Ste BCommerce Township, MI 48390 This thing is gonna happen! WOOHOOOO!

The fact is, they weren't designed for FI and all the money and work to get it to the right place... naahhh.... Subaru's been doing it for a LONG time... It's easy to get a VERY streetable, daily drivable 300-500hp from an STi motor... this is just mainly cause i'm a Subaru guy though... If you were fronting the money, we'd be doing whatever YOU wanted... I have thoughts of converting my Subie to RWD, it's SUPER easy, all I would have to do would be dissasemble the front halfshafts and leave the "ends" in the tranny and hubs... No leaks and it would lock the center diff, making an east RWD conversion... (I just read about this in SubieSport magizine BTW.. lol)

Hey, I am on board with that! Sounds very doable... but I just wish it was as easy as converting your Subie. Ultimately, this was a fun exercise... Its fun to dream

Hey Aaron.... conceptually, couldnt you take an entire front wheel drive engine/trans/driveshafts (with turning locked out) and mount it in the back of the car? Obviously there would be fabricating involved, but as a concept, it could work quite well.... yes?
