A Cleaner Look (Door Center Molding Delete)

EDIT 02/04/08 - There are holes in the doors behind the center moldings. Oh well. I really like the cleaner look that would be achieved by removing the center moldings from the doors. It has been discussed here previously that removing the moldings would expose small holes in the door skins. Apparently, the moldings have locating pins that protrude into the holes in the doors for alignment purposes. I inquired at two different local Pontiac dealer's body shops and was told by one that they thought they were just stuck on but ultimately didn't know for sure and the other said that they were "pretty sure" that there were locating pins.Does anyone here know for a FACT that there are holes in the doors behind the moldings? Your knowledge and expertise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,PlatinumVibe08

it is a much cleaner look but I have seen first hand that they have protected my car doors from jacka__ that don't give a hoot.

Whoa, I like how clean that looks.... and while my real-world mind tells me that the door bumpers are absolutely necessary to protect your car from door-dings, the reality is that I park 100 miles away from other cars. This might be something I will do... thanks for the visuals!

That might be something I will have to do in the near future. As far as door dings, they are going to happen. That little molding on the door is going to get dinged too. Somewhere you will get that stupid little ding.

that does look good, never thought about it. what would be the method for pulling these off? are they just held on with tape/glue like vibe badging and just heat it up with a hair dryer and use fishing line to saw thru

when i got my graphics done by george. he removed his off his vibe gt. yes there was holes. he had covered his up with graphics. best bet . pull them off carefully so you dont break the clips if you have them and need to put them back.

Those actually wouldn't be a bad idea if they were magnetic, so a guy could take them on/off only in parking lots.

I gently pulled the molding out from the front passenger door enough to verify at least one hole in the door skin. Fortunately, the molding stuck right back on where it will stay. PlatinumVibe08

What's to say someone doesn't break the window to prove a point because they though tethering them to a closed window was a wee bit assinine? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaY4FG5oPRI

That's odd,I remember after getting my rear door painted a few years ago,and having to bust out my 4 foot level and marker to put that trim on.I had a hell of a time making it sit straight, and actually it's off a little and I don't remember any tabs,so I will have to rip mine off again.

I like the look of the one with the moldings better. removed might be :cleaner: but it also is boring. somehow the moldings make it look more pontiac, less generic wagon

i agree with PlatinumVibe08... I actually never even thought about the possibility to remove the moldings, but i prefer them on.
