Got a dyno...

Post by CountryVibe »

They had a dyno trailer come to our town a few weeks ago and the few of us went down to get our cars dyno. I was hoping for higher numbers, But seeing the 24hp jump when lift kicks in was cool2005 GT

Must be the seat belt beep delete that's making those numbers.

what kind of dyno? those are good numbers, but seem high for your mods. some dynos read high and some read low, some read just about average... curious to see. Either way, nice numbers at the wheels.

Its dyno proof your car is kickin some (removed) at the wheels. Good numbers for sure. Curious to see what you'd get if you dyno'd it again.

Nice numbers, but, they are not SAE corrected numbers. What type of dyno were you using, dynojet or mustang.

It's called a chassis dyno........HP #'s @ the wheels. To get engine/crank shaft HP, the engine is out of the vehicle, on a stand with the dyno attached to the crank shaft. Wheel HP #'s are generally 15-20% lower due to power losses through the tranny/drive train. So, to be making 170 HP @ the wheels, would equate to +/- 205 HP @ the crank which is +/- 20% over the stock #'s.

Dynos will measure power differently. A dynojet will not produce the same whp ratings as a Mustang Dyno. This is what we are asking.

Really? Well duh. Go back and read the previous posts.......it's obvious some aren't clear on the difference. Does everyone know that a trailer mounted dyno is a chassis dyno? If so, why was it varified that the numbers were at the wheels? Also, Dynojet vs Mustang is blown way out of proportion. If they are both set up correctly and all the right parameters are used in the set up, the numbers will be very close between the 2. Not everyone is capable of a proper dyno set-up regardless of the brand.

ah. very cool. dynojets read pretty accurate. I believe PDX Tuning has a dynojet as well.

Here you go. This is a thread on legacygt.com showing how the same car with the same mods differ from various dynos.http://www.legacygt.com/forums...80903

.........and back-to-back runs can be done on the same dyno with different results being achieved. What brand the dyno is, is a moot point. No one says what brand of dyno they used, just their dyno results.

ok sure. no one ever pays attention to what dyno, temps, etc. maybe not here, however on all the subaru, mitsu forums, and most of the other FI vehicle specific forums we do. http://forums.nasioc.com/forum...00004where it's asked which type of dyno for comparison in addition to mods and fuel.

btw, that is only one thread. there are so many.... and I didn't even go to the evo forums where they discuss the differences in dyno's there too. Dyno does make a difference, so does temp, altitude, etc.

no, it's a comparative data thing so we can get the most accurate reading and idea. Even Riotrix before he sold his turbo's 2zz Matrix had 2 completely different readings on his car, same mods, same everything, just 2 different dynos on 2 different days. and we're not talking about 5 or 10 whp difference, if I recall, his was about 30 whp! that's a HUGE difference! Dynos are great to help measure how the car is performing. What most people who do tune and dyno their vehicles will tell you, it's a starting point and an end point to measure the overall difference in gains or losses. If you use the same dyno under the same conditions with the same car, a before and after, you will get an accurate view of how much of a power/tq change the mods/tuning/etc actually made. It helps give an idea as far as what the car is putting to the ground that day and that time. When I drove the 2500 miles to PDX Tuning to get on their Mustang Dyno, my car made 238 awhp and 231 awtq. This reading was done at 86 deg temps while my car boosted no more than 16 psi. Here, my car boosts at 21 psi. that is a huge difference in power. We were expecting to see about 260 awhp and 280 awtq with my particular set up on that day (bear in mind the auto tranny in this vehicle consistently reads a good 20 whp lower than it's MT sister). Even before adding my full turbo back exhaust, I was able to run 13.199 at the track with "238 whp" in a car that weighs 3400 lbs with me inside it. Obviously the power curve was off the day I dyno'd it. My tuner and I guesstimate, if we had an AWD dyno facility here, the car would come in closer to 300 awhp. As I said before, the dyno type, temps, etc ALL contribute to the actual readings. Some dynos consistently read higher than others while some we call "heart breakers".

those are some good numbers CV hope, i'm curious about why your boost was 5 psi lower when you had it dyno'ed. i think you said it before in that topic you posted about the whole trip, but i'm too lazy right now to read 2 hours worth of text in one topic. j/p so the day you ran 13.199 at the track, the legasti weighed 3489 pounds?? lol
