lol, ya it sucks, my job is decent, but not enough for me to make it, only $10.75 an hour and it's a dead end job, no room for advancement either...looked at the hamilton spectator tonight and emailed a few places, plus gonna drop off a crap load tomorrow after work, hopefully i can get something by the end of february

I was making $800 every two weeks + monthly bonus at my last job when I was in Ontario. Lived comfortably on it for food+car+rent/utilities+leisure stuff. Even with the tax in canada, cost of living in a small town was pretty low. If your good with customers and know enough about cars to work as a service consultant, I'd suggest it. It was decent pay at Gord Anderson Pontiac Buick GMC in Woodstock.

Take it from me, but Home Depot will not pay you near 12$ an hour to start.(I work there, so I would know) They used to pay well, but that all changed during the Bob Nardelli years. Now its just like every other crappy job.

I might be in the market for a new job sooner rather than later -- the company is going through some shuffling and ppl are getting laid off everyday

Well yeah, if you have experience, you will get paid more. But I have been working there for over two years, and I have personally seen the company slide downhill. There is a guy that works in my dept. that has his bachelor degree, and he makes just shy of 12$. Maybe its different in other areas. Actually, It probably is. Michigans economy sucks so bad right now. They will pay you squat, because they know that nobody can find another job in this state even if they try.

Having a BA/BS and working retail means nothing to them. I mean...I have a MIS/ECE degree but I wouldnt expect to get paid a bunch if i applied at home depot cuz i havent dealt with plumbing much at all. Some times though, you just gotta do what you gotta do to get by, my friend works two jobs here in duluth, one is overnights at a gas station and the other is a host at a bar/grill. lots of work and little sleep/social life but it gets the bills paid for now.

Been there, done that, got the emotional scars LOL

Yeah, like I said, Michigan is in the crapper right now. They know that they can get away with paying us squat, because we won't be able to find another job. Well, thats what I'm going with anyway.

sucks! here, the job market is pretty good. trying to find qualified or good reliable workers is hard.

Just curious - what do you think of Frank Blake versus Nardelli? They both worked for GE and Schenectady NY, and i had a little bit of interaction with both of them. I thought that Blake was an excellent businessman - he convinced Nardelli to buy so many Energy-related businesses, and just about every one of them was the right decision.

well i got a job interview on the 13th at primerica financial services :D

do you know what that is? do a lot of research. it's a commission only sales position. you will need to study and get all your licensing to become a "financial advisor" and the stories of glory they will feed you is mostly BS. I have them humping my leg and my workers all the time. no thanks.

well, good luck. they like to come down, try to impress us with talk of making $50K/yr. I laugh at them. They suckered one of our workers (not mine, but another one) into it and she fell for it like a fly on stink. LOLhow long has your buddy worked there? and what does he do?

well good luck again. I would recommend you look into other financial planning type companies like Edward Jones, new York Life, Solomon Smith Barney, Morgan Stanley, to name a few. i once looked into this when I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and decided it wasn't for me. Sure glad I didn't too. But you aren't me, so good luck. Might be what you're wanting to do in the financial world. Just keep in mind, Prime America is like a big corporate pyramid. If you bring so in so in, you make bonuses or commissions from their sales, etc etc.
