I know a lot of people on the board seem to like mobile 1. I was at costco the other day, and they stock it and it is $29.99 for a box of 6. Just thought I would post that.

Where do you find it? Is it full syn or blend? How can you tell it is the "German"?

The vast majority of the members at BITOG have no problems or concerns with M1. There are some there that don't like German Castrol. You can't make everybody happy all the time.

I like Mobil1 And yes Mobil 1 is a full synthetic. Their Blend is Not called Mobil 1. And 29.99 for a case of 6 is a pretty decent price. A better deal is often the 5 quart jug at walmart.

I usually go for Mobile 1 because it's easy to get a hold of, I can get it in a 4.4L jug at a WalMart, perfect for my GT.

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com, some sreious reading right there...!!! The big deal about Mobil 1 over at BITOG is not that it is a "bad" oil. Most members think it is an excellent oil, but the price of Mobil 1 is considered too much compared to other oils which perform just as well.

I also use the mobile 1. I get it at walmart, 5L for $22 seems like a very good price to me, if it is still a class 4 like it used to be. If it is now a class 3, there are probably better alternatives. Anyone know if it is class 3 or 4? I know that amsoil or royal purple is probably better but not sure of the price on that or availability. Also whats the difference with the castrol syntec german vs. american bottles.

Mobil 1 is fine...just more BITOG fear mongering. However, you can get PP for like $19 at Chinamart; QS Q-Torque is usually a buck less...and it's also a SOPUS synth.

Can someone provide some scientific evidence to the claim that Mobil 1 is no good. I think it would be very hard to prove that an engine suffered damage/wear due to an oil. I've seen posts on the web where people say "I have been using xxx oil and my engine died after xxx miles. However, there is nothing to prove that the oil was responsible but some people have a tendancy to come to broad conclusions. They post that on the web and mislead other people.I've been using Mobil1 for years without any problems. Normally purchase at Costco or Walmart but recently the cost of the 5 qt at Walmart works out cheaper than the 6 qt pack at Costco although you can sign up for the Mobil 1 rebate program with the 6 qt.

If it were really bad, would companies like Mercedes-Benz (SLR, AMG), Honda (Acura RDX), Aston-Martin, Bently as well as some high end GM and Chrysler vehicles come with M1 right from the factory?

I just changed my oil yesterday with my second round of Mobil 1. They sell the 5 quart jug at Sams Club for just under $20. A few bucks cheaper than it's cousin Wal Mart.

Seems like all the parts stores carry the 4 qt oil jug, which is perfect for the Vibe. No 5 qt jug taking up space with 1 qt left in it.

But, that is the major concern with M1 oil, as others have said, it's not a BAD oil.. but in high stress motors (like my turbo stage 3 subie) it's under a LOT of stress.. so being 100% Synth is a very good quality for it... As far as "blend" oils the percentage is differet, obviously. German Castrol can be found at Autozone, they only carry 0w-30 and you can tell by looking on the back of the bottles, the 0w-30 id the ONLY one on the shevles that says made in germany. The other will either say made in USA or it says something to the effect of "components made in germany and USA" The German made version has to adhear to a much stricter TUV standard than out ANSI (IIRC) standards...

Yes, if you are referring to the fact that M1 is not 100% synthetic - again I've seen claims on the web claiming it to be 100% synthetic and some others claiming it is not. Any conclusive evidence/links would be useful as I've not found them yet (I've not looked for it I have to say).

I thought Castrol started the whole mess by lowering the synthetic oil production standard from Group IV PAO synthetic base stock to the lower grade Group III hydroisomerized conventional oil base stock but Castrol still called it 'synthetic'.Mobil filed suit basically saying 'you can't lower the quality or the process by which your product is made and still call it/advertise it as synthetic oil'. Mobil LOST..........what's up with that. To-may-to, to-mah-to, Castrol started it all by dumbing down synthetic motor oil.

Seems like everyone has their say on Mobil1. As for me, Mobil1 is just a so-so. Nothing remarkable. If you're that kind of driver who abides by all the traffic rules and was never caught on any violation, you should love this. __________________________Needing Pulse Plugs!
