The Wall Street Journal today has an article comparing the Malibu and the Accord.http://online.wsj.com/article/...picksFTA: "Which is better, a very good GM car or a mediocre one from Honda? That's the question I keep coming back to while contemplating the new Chevrolet Malibu and Honda Accord, both completely redesigned for 2008."

Seriously, who approved the styling on the Accord? The doors are Acura, and the front is...turd. The old Accord coupe looked way better.

I read that article. It didn't make much sense. The drapes didn't match the carpet . . . I meant to say the headline didn't match the content. He had as much negative to say abuut the Malibu as he did about the Accord. The main issue for buyers in any Accord vs. Chevy Malibu decision is reliability. One has an expectation that the Accord will go 5 years with only routine maintenance. Some of us who have owned a GM crap, I mean car, in the past have faced some major reliability issues.

In 2011 I suspect a 3 year old Accord will sell for a lot more than a 3 yr old Malibu, even if they are equally reliable, just due to perception and past experiences. It will take years of GM producing cars equal or better before they repair their reputation. But let's give em credit for taking the first steps, now we have to see if they can follow thru and if the cars will hold up.

How's that 15 year old Lexus LS400 doing?

I saw a brand new fully loaded Malibu today....and WOW is all i can say...it just blows the doors of any toyota or honda in looks and style.and throw in there the better motor of the 3.and at a much better $.and u have to look at resale..Gm always use to flood the market with cars..now they have cut wayyyyyyy back on the #'s,it will be hard to find a use one of these in a few years....ppl will hold on to them longer..the same way it is hard to find a good used accord...and that makes them worth more.In ending all i can say is give me a malibu or a aura...they are much better then the camry or accord.my opinion.lol

Just had the timing belt replaced and took it on a 750 mile road trip to Phoenix and back. Drove 75 to 85 the whole way, got 22 mpg, not as good as the Vibe, but not bad for a 4 liter V-8.

They will hold them longer if the cars hold up well.

That new Accord is hideous, IMHO. I think multiple teams of engineers in multiple areas of the globe with no communication or interaction between each other designed it. Nothing flows together at all. They did copy the front off the Hyundai Sonata so that part isn't too bad, but the back end to me looks like an Ion. The Malibu is a nice piece of work from what I've seen of it so far. I'd much rather take one of those over a Camcord.I read another comparison article from some other site the other day that put the Malibu up against the Accord and Camry... Of course the Accord came in at #1, Malibu #2, and Camry last.

Love the new Bu! I pulled into a dealer lot one night a few weeks back to look at one they had parked outside. I was very impressed. Not to huge, and very tastefully done. All the angles from each viewing point were pleasing to the eye. From what I hear Chevy is already having to ramp up production to keep up with demand as dealers cannot keep them on lots.

I owned a 98 Malibu, and will never buy another Chevy as a result. I piled up too much debt due to the continuous repairs. It's kind of like people that have one bad experience with tequila and will never drink it again.

the accord looks like a gay version of the old IS300 (which rocked)

As an owner of an 06 Accord and was considering a Malibu (got the Cobalt instead), I'll offer this. There is nothing you can say about the Accord. It's basically "perfect" or boring if you want to put it that way. Nothing you really like, nothing you really hate. the new 08 Accord is not much different IMO.I love the look of the Malibu. Love how GM design the front seat back to carve a few more inches of rear leg room. But there is just a few things I don't like:1. 4 spd auto. OK, I would let this one go.2. Large long trunk holds more stuff. Great. But try grab something way deep in there. It's a far reach. Unless you are packing for the weekend, that big long trunk is usless because you'll most likely just leave your stuff close to the bumper. Ok, now if a can from your grocery bag rolled way in, you may have to "climb in the trunk" to get it. 3. Try sit in it. Notice how your head bump agains the roof rail on the side. Yes, that nice curve adds a lot the styling. And I know the side curtain air bags suppose to protect your head. In other words, lots or room, but not much room for my head if there is a side impact. 4. Electric PS is questionable. I'm OK with the Cobalt's tuning. But read Malibu needs a bit more tuning. Why didn't we get the Malibu? Dealers can't keep them in stock. No deals on them. So my points must not be important to some. They must be happy I'm sure.
