After 4 years or is it 5 years of ownership, I finally want to find the source of my highway speed wind noise. 2003 Vibe with sunroof.Noise sounds high and towards the front....likely suspects:sunroof, itself ???(Would a deflector in front of sunroof help??)poor roof insulation???the drip rail over the windshield???the pass side wiperblade (doesn't hide below hood cowl?)the pass side mirror ???the roof rack ??? (Do Matrix w/o rack have wind noise?).I'm planning a trip to Fla... I will be deaf by the time I get there !!!

When I drive my GMC truck or Subaru Outback, I can't believe how quiet and smooth they both are. The Vibe is a noisy, bumpy little economy car. Both my '04 and '06 have a lot of wind noise, especially in a cross wind.

I always thought it was poor sealing of the windows.

I have moved the front rail toward the back...Since I do not use the rails...is there a way to remove just the cross rails ???It is about 10degrees outside or I would go out and check.

Noise does not seem to be at the side window...at least not the driver's side.Is not the high pitched whistle... more of a roar.

I experienced the same noise when we first got our vibe. The dealer replaced the window seals that helped a lot. There's still wind noise now but we're used to it. I might get window vents to help out with the noise and get rid of the water runoff/stain on the top of the windows

The end caps at the rear of the roof rack just pop off... be carefull not to break the taps that hold them on, Being it's so cold outside.this link should help you

What do you think a body shop would charge to remove the cross pieces ? 1/2 to 1 hour labor ???Are there deflectors for front of rack that might give same results ?Or I suppose deflectors could make it worse!

speaking of window seals...always bugged me you could not roll down side window to remove the frost on outside of window. I usually have to reach across car and push against window to get it to clear the frost. Same with driver side window. I blamed it on the curved window glass.

the roof rails are a big noise maker and then yeah...i think its the actual window design that makes the noise. check this, on the hwy roll down one of the back windows, on my vibe it would make this thumping noise that hurt everyones ears in the car. I drive a ton and i just crank the tunes up so i dont hear all the noise :/

The way I have always found the offending door/window seal leaks, is to turn the hvac fan up to high with outside air selected, engine off, inside a closed garage, now take a lit cigarette or just a bic lighter flame and go around all the seals (from outside of the car). You will see the smoke or flame move when the leaking air hits it. Now you know where, you just have to figure out how to seal it. On my Vibe it was the worst place possible...next to my ear on the drivers door. I added a small amount of rubber door seal material and the obnoxious noise was gone. Becarefull not to light your car or garage on fire, this would make the annoying leak much worse!
