Anyone get there Vibe w/a GM Employee discount? Also, what is the loyalty rebate?

The subject pretty much sums it up.My Pops works for GM, so I am eligible for the discount. To anyone who may have received it: what is the process? do dealers like to deal with you if you are getting a discount? Any little details relating to the process are greatly appreciated. The second part, what exactly is the loyalty rebate. I own a long-paid-off '93 chevy lumina (and have for some time), am I eligible? Thanks!

I am getting the GM discount....though my dad and mom live in Mexico the paper work was just sent to them today. I am actually getting the GM discount, GM loyalty $1000 cash back, $2000 cash back through march (same with GM loyalty) GM card earnings of $1200, and I'm trading in my 97 Geo Tracker for $2000. So in the end I'm getting close to $8000 off the price of the vibe. I'm leasing it with a 3 yr contract at $160/month. And the dealers do not mind working with you, they're happy to make a sale. The dealership, your dad, and insurance company take care of the logistics. So good luck with your choice, and have fun!! by the way, what type of Vibe are you getting, and what options are you getting with it?-Eric

Sorry I forgot about your second part.....Yes, you are eligible, owning any GM vehicle (Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, etc...) any of 'em and you can get the rebate. But be ware that both the GM loyalty and $2000 cash back expires March 31st, good luck with that.

So simply having a GM product gets me that discount? Do i have to prove something other than pointing at my car?I'm not sure what color yet. They have an Envy at the dealer that I like, but I don't want the attention of an offbeat color car. I'll probably do moon & tunes and monotone...i'm still debating whether to go GT or not. I am afraid the engine in the standard would be overworked, and the last overworked engine I drove (a 4 Cylinder 2.2 in an 89 Buick Century Sedan: 0-60 in 20 secs) died at 120,000.I'm just graduating college and have a decent job almost lined up so i am excited about getting a new car! I'm not from a family or have an upbringing where things like new cars are very common, so the idea of getting one makes my heart race (i'm a nerd!)

With a down payment that big, I wouldn't lease it. All those incentives, rebates and earnings would be preserved if you buy it. Unless you absolutely need a very low car payment right now, I'd purchase. Just a suggestion, none of my business really.

Oh I'm definitely buying. Leasing is a good option for some, but not for me. I'm likely to still be driving this Vibe in 2013. 2013, wow I feel like we're living in science fiction. My dad swears by leasing. If I'm going to pay the depreciation at the time when cars depreciate the most, I'd rather even it out by driving it for 7-10 years

I was just going to try and figure out an example of what the monthly payment would have been if financed for 60 months, then sold at the end of 3 years, but don't have the time. There are arguments for leasing a car over buying, but putting big cash down on a lease is not the way to go usually. For the gm discount, the car dealer just needs the SS# of the person working (or retired) at G.M.

I believe GM has a web site for people who can use the program. Something like "GMfamilyfirst", try that or look for a link at
http://www.gm.com . Most dealers should be know who to do it. Just tell them when you call or show up that you are going to use the employee program. Also I think there is a bonus this month to GM card holders. Good luck. Move quick so you do not loose all this months deals. Also for the loyalty, just need to show them the registration or title.

My grandfather retired from GM. Therefore, I was able to utilize the Gm discount. I just called my grandmother up and gave her my SSN and told I was interested in an 03 model. She called it in to GM (not sure what #) and gave me a certificate number. I gave that # to my dealer and that entitled my to the GSM price which was about $2500 off.Jim

The reason I'm leasing is this....when my dad brought up the idea of a new car, etc....referring to the Vibe. He said that he would pay my lease payments for a year, until I graduate, and get my first real job. When that happens I take over the payments. So for the time being I couldn't pass up a deal like that. I agree buying would probably make more sense, but since i have a full year of no car/insurance payments, I"m taking it!

What I did was I pulled a print out of the exact car I wanted (printed from the internet) to the dealership. They took the stock number of the car and pulled the invoice. On it were listed a couple of prices. There was the MSRP (which was just under $22,000) and the GSM price (which was just over $19,100). Basically, there is no negotiation. They pull the GSM price (which is supposedly the lowest price you can get before any rebates and such) and that is the price you pay before rebates. You need to give them your certificate number up front so they can show you the GSM price (which they did for me...I saw it on the invoice itself). On top of the GSM price, I got an additional $2,500 in rebates. It was actually a very easy process. I origianlly was thinking of a Chevy Trailblazer and (from a different dealership) was told basically the same thing. The Chevy dealership said that the GSM price was the lowest price you can get (not including rebates of course).

The website you need to go to is
www.gmfamilyfirst.com. You can register there to see what GM discounts are available to you. There are others besides cars, occasional deals on Direct TV etc.. Occasonally we get higher rebates. You will need your sponsors (GM employee) SSN and info. From there you can link to a special version of GMBuypower that lists GMS pricing. The pricing is typically the invoice less holdback. Prior to last November if you ordered the vehicle you also got the advertising money too usually a few hundred dollars. The GMS price is essentially the price the dealer pays for the vehicle except for advertising and financing allowances. BTW Make sure when you go to the dealership you should bring the GMBuypower sticker to make sure it matches the dealers. I found when I bought mine there was a price increase after the dealer got my car so they got a new invoice and window sticker from the GM DealerWorld site to reflect this. The dealers can do this at any time. GMS policy is that you pay the price on the sticker at the time the vehicle left the factory not one the dealer got later unless there are dealer installed accessories that did not ship with the car (pinstriping etc). The sticker on the GM Buypower site is usually reflective of the original sticker. My dealer actually took my car on a locate swap and got stuck with the higher sticker. As part of he deal they are not allowed to charge you the documentation fee. GM pays them a fee for handling the transaction. You are also elilgible for discounted extended warranties. You can buy at the time of purchase or prior to one year or 12,000 miles. You can have your sponsor call to get you a certificate. I am not sure but I think it may be possible to get it off the GMFamilyFirst site at some point. Dealers can choose to not to sell to you if they wish almost all will on a vehicle like this. If you were looking for a Z06 or an H2 forget it. I hope this helps. Enjoy your new Vibe.

You didn't have to pay for three months because you just graduated? Or was that a seperate offer?

I also got my Vibe with the 0%. The 90 days deferred payment was for anyone who took the financing instead of the rebate. The loyalty discount now is for anyone who currently owns a GM vehicle. It is available with the GMS discount.

I bought mine yesterday and I used my brother's employee discount. I saved about $2000 from that. With all the rebates and trading in my Sunfire (which was paid off) I saved about $11,000 off MSRP.

In Canada there is a new grad credit, worth $1000. I just took a digital picture of my diploma, printed it out, and handed it to them when we worked up the final deal. The more rebates you can get, the better it is for your financing situation ... they are more likely to approve you, and at a better interest rate.
