370 BMWs Damaged at the Port

Jersey CityA cargo ship carrying BMWs heading to our dealerships tipped a bit and caused damage to 370 BMWs. All were either E92 M3s, 1-series, 3-series. Of the 370, 70 were written off to the crusher, and the others will be fixed at the BMW receiving facility and sold as new. The shipping company's insurance has the tab.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

It'd be a bigger bummer for me if I was the one suffering...hopefully, there won't be too much of a backlog...I wonder if the repair will hit the Carfax reports...and I'm curious how they can sell them as new and not repaired?

I would be ticked if I plopped down that kind of cash to buy the car as new, only to find the car was severely beaten and fixed up prior to the car arriving at the dealer.I know minor things get beaten up on new cars and fixed a lot, but if it is something serious and on an expensive car, ugh... If the repairs were of decent quality (which I'm sure they will be in these cases) and they knocked 50% off the price, sure.

. . . and sold as new!Where are the consuemr protection people when we need them - worried about the sale of outdated foods where the expiration date is clearly marked I suppose.

Write off time! I know this was the shippers fault but once you see vehicles damaged a few times you realize a vehicle to a car company is just like a can of beans getting smashed to a bean vendor. Write them off and move on. I have seen many perfectly good vehicles get crushed or damaged, you want to cry but then say that is the biz!
