In the market for a newer Vibe. Thought I'd find a forum and start the research, and find out what I can before the GF brings one home as her new ride, to replace her 2000 Elantra "Haley" that lost its tranny about a month ago. She's liked the look for a while, and got to drive one (06 fwd) around for a few hours today at work (she works for a auction) and she's went and fell in love with it. About the only thing I know about what she wants, is it has to be an auto. I'm excited about it, I'm really looking forward to her getting something that will be fun (for me) to drive. It will be her DD getting about 30k a year put on it. My only knowledge about the car thus far is how to make the Front Hubs Assy (former job). and will be happy when she brings one home, so I can leave the CTD in the driveway on the weekends, and maybe have something else to Mod. welcome! I put on tons of miles a year on my car with my job traveling the state, all it needs so far is the standard maintenance! being a toyota corolla chassis engine and tranny these things should last a while. I have a 2004 auto fwd base vibe with 63k miles on it, with some mods and it still runs great. I love the roomyness and the back seat even fits adults no problem!

First off that hood is sick. Just looking to see if there will be common problems, or things to look for besides the normal used car items, that are specific to the Vibe. Just from dealing with past cars, some makes/model have specific troubles, on my truck it was the injector pump, my S-series was the 2.2 tick, the Hyundai was a lot of electrical stuff (replaced all 4 window motors, among other things) just kind of getting a grasp on what to expect with Maint. But I know once it pulls in the garage its getting fresh Synthetic Oil and a filter change, and it will be on Synthetics as long as she owns it, already have a really nice Car maint. Trackng tool in place.

You don't need to compliment Merzbows' hood. He already knows, he is so full of himself.

Welcome!!! Every car has it's own crazy b.s. things that go wrong. +1 for the battery. I have an '05 auto base. Bought it last spring and so far put 20k on it. Been a wonderful car. My wife and I have done many long road trips (10+ hours total) and after a full day of driving we are not stiff. We have the ability to carry all sorts of toys on top and inside. The downside to the Vibe is the lack of power, but the gas mileage is wonderful.

I after about 20k it developed a ticking sound at idle and low RPMs. I believe it was the valves needed adjusting, took it in under warrenty, stealership said it was fine, but never really looked into it too much after that. But I sold it 3 years ago with 96k on it, still had the ticking sound, still ran fine. Been around other S-series trucks and Cavaliers with the 2.2 most all have had it.

Watch the stock radio. I am on my third one. They are replaced under warranty but only one of my replacements broke while under warranty. I need a new one again because the cds skip. I don't want an after market head unit because I like how the stock one works and looks, and it powers my massive stereo just fine So I will continue to buy stock head units (removed)...Thanks BTW. They are still being sold, that could be one of your first mods

i'm surprised nobody's said this yet(including me)the paint is crappy when she goes to pick one up, if she buys it from a pontiac dealership, have them give her a can of touch-up paint for free. they're gonna make a lot of money on the sale of the vibe, so i don't see anything wrong with getting them to toss in a $10 bottle of factory touch up paint, know what i'm sayin??

I don't know if 05+ models are affected by it or not but the older models had a problem with the power windows shattering the window. someone on here figured out how to fix it...something i need to do when i get home.

There's been a recall on those though so if it happens, you can get it replaced and covered under the warranty or even if the warranty is expired you can still get it replaced on them.

I don't mind much of anything getting dirty working on a car, but have always hated taking apart doors to work on something inside of them. and joholste - Thanks for what you do. Don't know if you guys hear it enough.

Well as sad, as I am to say it, I think she's found her new vehicle, and its not a Vibe. 2002 Suzuki XL-7, 4x4, Touring Package, 31,120 miles. She was tired of waiting after almost 3 months for a Vibe to walk into her life at work, and the price was hard to beat on this one, coming in a little more than $1000 under trade in valve. But there still might be hope, while driving the Cobalt while the truck was in the shop, kind of made me want to get back in a car(just for the MPG, 19 is great in the truck). The Vibe and Matrix have made the short list, along with the 2.5i Impreza's. I guess I can go back to looking at MT cars. Already spoted a few AWD Matrix & Vibes in the area for sale that she had to pass over because of not being able to drive stick.

Well been off GenVibe for about 3 months now, since she got her Madza5, she's still super happy about it. Today I test drove an 2004 silver, AWD, AT, Moon & tunes edition with 37k on it. I think the truck is getting traded in tomorrow for it.

Thanks. Diesel's already claimed the back seat as his own, with slobber on the seats and windows. 12 hrs into ownership, I'm pretty happy with the Vibe.
