Hi all,I just wanted spew about my excitement, one of the major sound deadening manufactures representatives frequent one of the car audio forums I'm part of... Well recently I've been working on my sound deadening, using 2 different products (both of which are represented on the forum as well, so 3 total) well, the second product I was using wasn't striking me as very good... So, I posted my concerns, which stemmed into a long discussion (over 5 pages at least) that included both of the reps for the companies I was using. Well, the 3rd rep PMed me asking me if I would like to try their products, of course I said SURE... so he told me not to be shy about my request for product, which shocked the crap out of me and I proceeded to shoot for the stars (and about 1200$ in product) He, didn't so much shoot this down, but offered me a WIDE range of product to try out..... All be told, I will be receiving 1016.57 in product and I'm not even paying SHIPPING (which was 133$!!!) this started with an order of about 450$ in product, and he just piled things on for me (which I hadn't expected)I called my GF yesterday, not knowing weather to cry or PUKE... I was so excited... I can't wait to get this finished and be able to demo the car for people, I'm sure that are a few members here that will get the chance to demo the car, as we are all car guys and love them for the love of loving them... I'm also doing a full on SQ system, so hopefully people won't be asking me where all the "bass" is...lolThis is somewhat off topic, because the install isn't going in my Vibe... but I couldn't contain myself... (I was also asked not to give the name of the company so he wouldn't get innodated with requests)<------ is a happy happy boy........

wow...congratulations!...im thinking about doing some sound deadening insulation stuff to the vibe eventually....i dont like how the passenger side rear panel rattles when you turn up the volume above normal level or the bass....im jealous

Thanks, the thing is, THIS STUFF JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ME...EVER... And I wouldn't call it a "sponsership" (I was all excited when I posted) More of a Rep sampling products to someone in need... The long story made short is, there manufacture gave them a really great deal on products being produced, which they ran a huge sale on, made a wikkid chunk of change and then were able to offer some people (like me) products as freebies... I guess I got lucky, being in the right place at the right time, posting the right stuff... I certinly FEEL lucky as I was running out of sound deadener and not sure how I was going to finish the car... now I can go a little overboard and get away with it... If you guys DON'T know sound deadening makes a HUGE difference in the sound of the car. Body panels are THIN and resonate (think empty coffee can) the sound deadeners "mass load" the panels it's applied to (now fill the coffee can with water) and lower the resonate frequencies down to a level that doesn't interfear with much of the audible range (it lower resonate freq, to sub bass levels that aren't directional)

After 5 pages of discussion, do you think they just wanted to shut you up? lol. J/K, man. Congrats! Sound deadening is a must for the Vibe, whether you have an upgraded audio system or not. It made a big difference on mine.

It was RAAMat, though being the cheapest out there for the amount you get, it's a tough comparo to make aginst the "others" and the customer service Rick@RAAMaudio provides is secong to none, not to mention all the time he spends on forums helping people out... when I was making my compairison, it was a very subjective "apples to oranges" comparo... really, one product was used in the doors while the other was used in the trunk... the matierals are different between the 2 (cascade Vmax/RAAMat) The Vmax cost twice as much as the RAAMat for less product... Neither are bad in ANY way, just different in a lot of ways... RAMMat is a good quality product, but side by side with the Vmax, the Vmax won in my eyes, BUT again, it's twice the cost for identical amounts... (looking at cost per SQ/FT... )

Like forum members on NASIOC get 10% off IIRC from Rick... And I MUST mention, it's NOT that I didn't like the RAAMat, because it's a great product, it's just when compaired side by side with another more expensive product, I did see a difference... RAAMat is also the BEST "bang for the buck" sound deadener on the market right now.... hands down... many many many people would agree with me...

I have heard that Subies require a lot of aftermarket soundproofing, so good luck, hope it makes the interior more tolerable.......

Add in the SUPER loud 3" turbo back and I've got some work to do... now I anc do it properly... Trust me, driving home from NJ in that sucker was MIND NUMBING...

man that is dope, glad you were able to get hooked up. i really think the rep should give you enough to do your vibe too about the guy that can give good discounts... i'm very interested, but i'll hafta wait for a lil while. i'm gonna be spendin a lot of money this year (but not much on mrcn rce )

thats really awesome man! I spent a bit on some dynomat for my car, its decent, I build a lot of DIY home stuff like sonotubes, fullrange transmission lines, and BIB's... its a lot of fun and fairly cheap. Im really happy for you because i know how much crap like that costs...i feel sorry for the car that you are putting it in because of all the weight...What kind of drivers/amps/other crap are you using for the sq system?

Thanks..!!! Don't feel sorry for the car, it's plenty fast for me, almost to fast, like a crotchrocket you can sit in... well, maybe not THAT fast, but you get the idea... A lot of people in the DIY community denounce Dynomat anymore, because of the product is old tech and still being heavily marketed by a (now) large corporation... It's still asfault based, where most all of the new products are butyl rubber based... well, in a nutshell, there is just better for cheaper anymore... As far as what's going in the car...We can start with the Eclipse 7100, it's got a USB port, Time Alignment, internal 3 way ACTIVE crossover (which i'm going "active" with) full color OLED display..ect.. more can be found on the Eclipse site if ya'll like... NOTE: this pic is an unfinished install pic, and the unit won't likely be staying in this location.Then we move onto the limited edition Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 5ch amp(#2072 of 2500 units made), that's going to send 111wx4 (from the "birth sheet") out to my mids and tweeters, each will get there own channel of power (where "active" comes in, no passive crossovers in this one..!!) and then ~650w x1 to the subs... Front stage (or my component speakers) will consist of the new Pioneer TS-C720PRS component system... (again each mid and tweet is going to get 111w) That WONDERFUL passive crossover isn't going to get used in this install... From there, my subs came (used) in a fiberglass box, build specifically for my spare tire well (purchased from a member of NASIOC with the same Y/M/M car) and loaded with a pair of Image Dynamics IDQ10 subs... Arguably one of the better SQ subs you can get and inexpensive to boot... From there it's just a bunch of sound deadening....And the doors...Inside, top half..Inside bottom half...Even inside the sub box...That's really about it for now, i'm trying to keep it as simple as possible... (K.I.S.S. Keap It Simple Stupid)

very cool, are you going to make it look good too or are you just looking for sq? you could make that little space where the head unit is look really smooth if you glassed it a bit, did some sanding, and painted it...it doesnt seem to fit together well...interesting amp, ive never seen it before but it sounds good, is 650 enough to power both of those? the jl w7's are extremely musical when put in a spec sized box, great xmax and just an overall good sub...way to expensive to me though http://www.partsexpress.com/pe...4-854 im gonna try to do a passive radiator design with one of those when i have the money, they are pretty nice for how cheap they are anyways, good luck at comps or shows when you get there, hopefully i can do something fun with my nissan when i get it

The HU doesn't fit the space well, that pic is with the cover just sitting there, and it's REALLY bright... so, i'm prolly going to put it where it would normaly go.. That amp is a BRUTE... it's actually do 1ohm on the sub channel for almost 1000w alone... the 650 will be PLENTY for my needs, as those subs aren't power hungry like the W7 you mention (which are SICK, but expensive and not as SQ as you would think)The amps "birth sheet" (sorry for the crappy pic, I do audio, not photography..lol)As far as your nissan, we could hook something up.... A REALLY good sounding system DOESN'T have to be expensive at all... trust me, i know where to find the deals... Like my Pioneers, 260 shipped.... that amp 525 shipped, yeah, i know that IS expensive, but in the grand scale, not that bad considering the specs of each...!!!

thats nice that they send you a sheet with its actual tested specs (i wonder if they actually change with every amp) yah ill probably do some kick panels in the nissan with a set of components, run with this old phoenix gold amp that puts out 55 rms into 4ohms for 2 channels then just run some coax's in the back (dont know what size they are yet) and ill probably put use to my old kicker 10" l5, its not the best but it sounds pretty good as long as you have a nice box for it, ill probably build a new one now that i have the whole back to use for space (extended cab, side seats) should be a fun project, i might put some tang-band full ranges in the dash for kicks, ill do it for really cheap though, ive found a few sites with unreal cheap stuff...so ill probably be visiting them fairly soon since the truck doesnt come with speakers, just some gay sonly head unit...it'll be fun...wait...you got those components for 260?!? eclipse makes some beautiful dual din dvd nav's and their higher end heads are pretty nice too...

If you are referring to the Eclipse with the Tom-Tom in it, don't bother. It is a P.O.S. The really really really expensive ones are ok.

(removed)?!?Most all of the better amp companies pre-test there amps and send out a birth sheet with each amp, have been for years.... I remember going through all the amps at a place I worked in the past, looking for the amps with the highest outputs based on the sheets (common practice in a lot of retail places, if an employee is looking to buy)Kick panel locations are some of my favorites in terms of location... If you don't have time alignment, it's really the only way to equalize path length to your ears from the drivers... Hit up http://www.raamaudio.com and have a look at Ricks Nissan(maybe toyota) pickup he competed with for years... very nice, very stealth...

i really like his center console, thats awesome!!! retaining the stock head unit was a cool idea, i cant imagine what the competition judges thought haha. dual 6.5's in the doors would be really nice to have, i think im gonna have SERIOUS clearance issues with the doors that why i figured i would go with kickpanels...I have a question about them though, can you use kickpanels if your vehicle is a manual? It seems like there wouldnt be room...plus i cant stand driving without a dead pedal, although with a decent grille on the speaker i could use it as on

I had kick panels in my VW for a 4"/tweeter MB Quart combo and it wasn't that bad... but, if you can;t live without a dead pedal, then you're kinda sunk... Unless you used a sealed back midrange that didn't require a "enclosure" you could sink them in to the kickpanel far enough to be out of the way..

good point, i've had MB's before, when i got mine, the manual was only in german, i thought that was weird, i must of got an oddly packed box...i donno, i might just build small boxed to bolt onto the door...kinda like that guy's tacoma on the link you sent me, i wouldnt really know where to start but it seems simple enough...yah i really do need a dead pedal, it annoys the crap out of me otherwise, especially in the city

Ha had a MBQ 3 way set with an 8"/4"/1" combo, no room and very little money... Pics are worth 1000 words... Kinda getto, BUT, like I said, he had little money and a crap load of nice gear (run off PPI amps and MBQ competition passive crossovers) It sounded nice, but wanted to RIP your frikkin head OFF... lol... made for a VERY tight car to...lol... They fit the angled lines of the car VERY well, and matched the cars paint rather well for going to the auto parts store and picking up a rattle can...

haha, yah thats kinda what i was thinking but on a much smaller scale with some 5 1/4 components, it wouldnt look like the door had a tumor as much as with an 8 how did those sound? ive never heard a 3 way system in a car, how much do 3 way crossovers run for cars? oh and what did you cover that thing with?

It sounded great, really BRIGHT with them tweeters (MB tweeter are KNOW to be bright) and EVERYTHING was there except for the low low bass.. is it was quite a feeling.. espically the kickdrums wapping you in the leg... # way systems are typicly very expensive, due to the large passive crossover network..and unless you were to custom build a 3 way crossover, I would never just "slap" one into a system... they are built around the thiel small parameter of the drivers and using different drivers on a crossover can cause crossover points to change, boosts and cuts in places not intended and genneraly NOT a good idea overall... And those AREN'T coverec, just painted MDF... It's hard to tell because of the angles of the shadows, but you could still see the layers of MDF on the boxes, because of the way MDF sands on the edges.. lol...

i tend to go for less harsh (read: bright) tweets like vifa silks, those are very nice and wont rape your eardrums like aluminum, titanium, or any other metallic ones...ive used prebuilt 3 way crossovers for some home speakers that i bought from partsexpress and they worked quite well, good frequency points, i replaced some of the caps and resistors on them and they sounded a lot better but are car crossovers much different from home ones? like i said im not an expert with car stuff by a long run...

No, car crossovers are the same, overall, but the enviroment and the interactions TO the enviroment is MUCH different.. So, unless you know about figureing in the theil smalls and selecting crossover components, "I" wouldn't do it, but you are very welcome to ask other opinions in other forums... I could be completely wrong... I'm just going on the things "I" know... and I've never claimed to know it all... Heck, some of the things you have alread done are FAR beyond things i've done, it's all personal expierence and in what setting you've done them in...
