Does anybody know what the white plastic tube inside the airbox lid does. I took my plastic tube that runs from the air box out i am going to replace it with a larger piece of tubing or with a large hose to allow more air into the air box.

Basically it just helps straighten out the air flow path.

I woudn't because it could cause turbulance and decrease flow.

I think turbulence is the issue, just as NovaResource says.I used a GM Tech II scan tool on my base Vibe, and the "long term fuel correction" values changed from plus 2-3% to minus ~ 8% (indicating that the MAF sensor was no longer giving accurate data) when I pulled out the tube. The bell shape should help air flow, but the grid (which apparently is there as an additional flow straighener, to ensure accurate readings from the Mass Air Flow Sensor) seems to hurt it by ~15%. I'd like to cut out the grid and see what happens, but first I'll have to see if the tube is sold separately and at what price, in case the test is a flop.Makes you wonder if the sensor readings are always accurate with a CAI, since I don't think any of them have flow straighteners. Maybe that's part of the performance gain: They trick the MAF sensor and alter the fuel mixture...
