No mention of radio security feature in manual

I think it's kind of strange that there is no mention in the manual of the theft-deterrent feature of the radio (or at least I can't find any mention). The one I am talking about is the he one where if you disconnect the radio from the vehicle it becomes useless and will not work if you try to put it in another (or back in the same I presume) vehicle. The only way to get it to work again is to take it into the dealer and have it " re-coded" . The only reason I found this out is that I called the dealer to ask what the flashing LED was about on the radio. He also said the same will happen if the car battery is disconnected and the connected back up-wonder if it will happen if your battery runs down too?

Yes, it will lock the radio any time power is removed. One interesting thing is, the owners manual for my fathers 2002 Grand Prix GT does tell about the TheftLock system and it even tells you how to program in your own code, activate/deactivate the system and unlock the system if the battery does die (if you know the specific code for your radio). My Vibe came with the base radio and the dealer had the in-dash 6-disc radio installed. The original radio did have the TheftLock system activated (the red light blinks when the car is off), however the new radio is not activated. I called the dealer to find out the procedue to turn it on/off and enter the code (unfortunately, it's not the same procedure listed in my fathers Grand Prix manual). So far, they don't know how. Arrrgh!BTW, I called Pontiac Customer Service and they told me to contact my dealer because they don't have technical info like that. Double Arrrgh!

The sales brochure says both radios feature "theftlock". On the newer cars that use the updated electrical systems, the system works by talking with other modules in the car. If removed it wouldn't recognize the new car. I think the give away is if the radio features the radio that gets louder the faster you drive. The 2002 Grand Prix is not one of those. I believe the dealer uses their hand held scanner to talk to the radio and activate theftlock. Although I have seen posts on several boards that the red light on the 6 disc dosen't blink, so not sure whats up with that.

I am going into the dealer to have them fix some very minor issues and will ask them about it (if they even have any clue! )

Nick, have them attach their scan tool and see if they can activate theftlock. Then post back for everyone with 6 discs. Thnaks.

Ok folks, who was pulled the battery and reconnected with the base radio? Still nothing in the owners manual. Does the radio still work?Does the radio have to be reset? My dealer denies all knowledge about the code and tells me "It is in the manual" I had read it and told them I would re-read it. Well I just did. Nothing. Thanks All

I don't think anyone has had any luck getting the light to flash. Also, be aware that the light is only a flashing light. The radio does not have the TheftLock system. See this thread: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1242

ALL RIGHT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey if any GM enginners are reading this then kindly settle this for us once and for all. And put something in writting since you so dumbly forgot to place this important topic in the manual. You would think for the amount of money we spend on these cars that these small details would be worked out.

FYI, I picked up my Vibe at then end of November. I had the 6-disc in-dash unit. The light blinks when the car is off. It came that way. There was a tag on the radio when I picked up the car with a few numbers which I assume was the Theftlock code however from reading other posts it seems there isn't really any theftlock. How many digits is a theftlock code usually? Anyone?Drew

This is the same fuse that the radio is on. When I replaced the fuse, the radio (single disc, base head, moon & tunes amp) worked properly without reprogramming. This indicates to me that running the battery all the way down would not require the radio security code be reset.

I just picked up my Vibe yesterday. It has the 6 disc changer in it and the light does blink when I turn the car off. Mine came that way also.
