After replacing my brakes I hear a smooth metal sound when ever i turn the wheel.I take it to get the brakes inspected & they say its th wheel hub bearing dying & I need a new one (FOR $l0l!). Anyone else have this problem & is it something easy I can do my self? So i dont pay $1000

Does the noise come/get louder with a direction(left or right) change? That is the typical sign of a bad wheel bearing... I can't tell you about replacement, i've never done one on a Vibe, but they can be REALLY easy (chevy astro AWD) or a serious PITA (Subaru Impreza rear WB, pressed in) I hope someone else chimes in with better news..

Pads been on 3 weeks, Still making the noise. The noise comes when I make a hard right turn from the left wheel. The noise dong come when Im swerving, only when doing a sharp right turn.Whats the downside of having bad bearings? Ill probably have it worked on in a week or so but I need to do parts shopping first.

The downside of having a bad wheel bearing... well, it could be as easy as dealing with the noise, which WILL get worse, all the way to the wheel seizing up and locking (not very likely) I've seen them so bad on a buddies car, you could watch the wheel wobble.,... DON'T let it go that far.... lol

I thought there was a pdf of it floating around here or MO though.

When re-installing caliper WATCH the SLIDER PIN. It's kind of oval where it mates with the bracket on the spindle. The bracket has a bump, and if the slider pin isn't rotated right, the ends sit on the bump, vs the sides of the pin clearing the bump and lying next to it.Result is one or both ends of the caliper sitting at a slight angle to the plane of the rotor.I think i explained that clearly. Close inspection and this heads up will be obvious. You can't just slap the caliper against the bracket and insert the nuts. Well you can, but you could have a problem.Grinding noise like a bearing - yup. Just after a brake job eh? - yup. Also clunking etc - it's coming if not there already. Sounds a bit like a cv jount as well. All just one little pin alignment issue.

Update!Replacing the left Wheel bearing fixed the metal rubbing sound & its good to make right turns now. The downside is now there is a deep grinding noise(grungrungrungrun) when I make a left turn. Also, if I'm accelerating in low gears the same noise can be heard.

That sounds like a possible half shaft (axle with CV's joints on each end)

Updated:Fixed...I would of never guessed it but I took it to a shop & they found out all 3 of my motor mounts were bad.I just got the car back today with all 3 mounts replaced.....and yea it was TEARable. All 3 mounts was ripped apart causing the engine to sag & bang the frame. The guy was very cool & got my respect...I bought the parts for $220 & he put them in for $60.

SWEETGlad you sorted it out. So it wasn't the brakes or hub?Just the motor mounts?Or Did you have the brakes and hub replaced as well?

The brakes & the left hub was replaced last year & the noise went away. I checked them over & over making sure my wheels wasn't falling off & didn't find anything wrong with the hubs, brakes & CV Joints. The transmission was smooth & drivability wasn't effected and this really baffled meThe mechanic did find that when holding the brakes & hitting the accelerator that the engine would jump about half a foot. That pretty much made me realized that the engine was vibrating on the frame making the nasty grun grun sound when turning, oddly the sound came after the car had warmed up meaning the rubber was warming up and becoming loose too. After the engine mount upgrade the car does have that extra kickagain when hitting the pedal.
