I was driving on the interstate in the rain and I noticed my wipers were running slower and slower. I turned them off for a second and turned them back on and no wipers! I tried all speeds. I pulled over to a pep boys and put some rain x on and made it home. Took apart the linkage and found that one of the pivots is hard to turn. Can these be rebuild or do I need to buy a new linkage? has anyone had this problem at 122k miles? I had to destroy a couple star washers to disassemble the pivots, are these available at the auto part store or do I need to go to toyota/pontiac?Any help would be appreciated,Thanks.

Hi and welcome..!! Sorry this had to be your first post... It sounds like either the motor went or maybe one of the bushings got really dry, you might wanna try some lube sprayed down the wiper shaft to see if that loosens it up some. You'll prolly have to take it all apart and see what is binding up...

People have had their rear wiper (hey drunken, no "rear wiper" jokes, ok?) do something silimlar, it had something to do with salt. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... 23299seems like trying to run it while seized caused it to burn up, hopefully you caught yours in time to where a clean and lube might keep you from having to replace some whole assembly. I've never disassembled it, can't offer any tips on that
