Alcohol is unsettling

I think I've got an issue with alcohol. Or more namely gin. For some reason when I start drinking it now it just doesn't settle like it used too. I wonder if that's cause I've ingest so much over the years or if it was the one vodka redbull I had to wake me up a bit. Either way, I gotta figure out whats up. It's pretty much all I drink aside from beer. Maybe it's the food combinations I have with it. who knows. But the unsettling is not in my stomach so much as it feels like it is in my esophagus. Guess I have to find something else to drink tonight. It sucks cause I love gin too, not a big vodka fan either. Maybe some LITs will help.

if it's in your throat, it may be acid reflux. gin is nasty stuff! do you mix it or drink it straight?

I typically do gin and tonic with a lime wedge squeezed then stirred in. Not shaken, lol.It actually never happened until the week of Thanksgiving. I drank hard on Wednesday before, then Friday and Saturday I was just bombed. I think ever since then liquor has just not had the same taste. I wonder if it was cause I felt a little sick from the amount I drank that it's one of those subconcious reactions like when you have a really bad food experience. If it is reflux, is that a temporary thing, and what would be ok to drink that wouldn't aggravate it.

it could be the bad experience haunting you. do you gag when you drink it? i couldn't drink whiskey for years, due to a bad night.also, the lime could be causing acid problems. try chewing some antacid tablets and see if that fixes it.acid reflux is pretty much heartburn with a fancy name.

Nope I don't gag. Maybe I'll pop some TUMs before I head out tonight and see if that helps. I also dont think me loving to eat hot food helps. Buffalo sauce is so good but apparently it's a too much of a good thing scenario.I'll pop some tabs and have one to start the night off and see how it goes with me. If I'm not feeling it I'll just drink beer all night.

yup i get that with certain drinks or times of stress and drinking. usually happens with sweet or acidic drinks....

i would also take some with you, they don't last long. you may want to try some of the over the counter stuff you take before you eat that lasts for hours.a guaranteed drink not to cause acid issues is a white russian. (vodka, khalua (sp?) and milk) first time i heard of it, i thought "ew, milk and alcohol?" it tastes just like hersheys chocolate milk. the milk will counteract the acid production and settle your tummy.

Never thought a white russian could be good. I may have to try one just for S&G's. I may run to the store during lunch when I go to send the MO to Bluecrush for the tube. I'll find somethin to cure this crap so I can continue my binging. I will not be conquered, well, at least till about 2am when I'm cocked.

believe me, you could have a white russian with breakfast, it's that good. just make sure they use milk and not cream.

You might also want to try taking over-the-counter Pepcid or Zantac about an hour before eating or drinking. They take about an hour for them to work completely but should last at least 12 hours and sometime longer. The Tums work very quickly but don't last long at all. You could also combine the two without a problem. Take either 20 mg of Pepcid or 150 mg of Zantac and that will definitely help with any reflux/heartburn. I think they are also both available as a generic OTC version (famotidine or ranitidine) which would save your some cash.Mike

Gin & Tonic is my drink of choice, and never had a problem with any acid reflux. I must warn you of the White Russian. It is one of the most disgusting drinks ever concocted. Kahlua with your coffee in the morning is much better.

are you nuts? it's delicious! do you not like chocolate milk?if you are into shots, try a red royal. it's one shot of crown and one shot of amaretto in a tumbler, very good stuff! even my girlfriend likes them and she doesn't like whiskey.

Pretty much bombed out of my mind for 2 days on rum & cokes. After that, I did not have another rum drink until the late 90s, and even now, I barely touch rum at all, just not appealing to me anymore. In fact I barely drink at all, maybe a gin and tonic when I am at a conference or the occasional margarita or beer. Give your body a break from drinking and when you start again, don't get bombed. I know it is boring advice, sorry.

I love chocolate milk, but white russians are just nasty. However, my wife loves them.

strange, do you have them made with milk or cream? i've had one with cream and it was way to thick and fatty tasting. 2% milk is what i like.

I've had them both ways. Milk is better, but still not good. Gin & Tonic...thats the good stuff. My wife thinks it tastes like grass clippings.

Just so you know Tray, you can post anytime I make a topic regardless of relevance just so I can have an excuse to see your sig again I think I'll just take it easy on the drinking, seems I've been doing more than normal for sue. Apparently a day or two away is not enough for my body to recover fully. I gotta let it all get out completely. I am gonna pick up some tabs in a few and see what helps me out. I am also starving right now from drinking last night. An english muffin with that Olivio butter was the spot, but I was late for work so not time.P.S- try Olivio, it is healthy and tastes awesome compared to other butters!

You body is telling you it is not liking what you are putting in it. Listen to your body more. Drink less or something else. I can get heartburn with different beers. With Miller Genuine Draft I get heartburn, with Michelob Golden Draft I do not. So I drink the Michelob. I am usually fine with mixed drinks, its the different beers that get me.

I agree BC. Certain beers give me crazy heartburn. Rolling Rock in particular. For me, the lighter colored the beer is, the worse the heartburn.

MGD produces a ton of foul gas too! it's a shame, because it's pretty good for being so cheap.

Ha, MGD. I may end up with just beer tonight as beer and me have always been good friends. I love different kinds and am a big Sammie A fan. Especially Sam Light. I guess I should just lay off the gin for awhile.

Give up the booze and start smoking Mary-Jane. Plus gin is for panty removing.

OK so I took some Pepto before I went out, ate a peanut butter sandwich before leaving. Then at the first bar I had a chicken ceasar, I ate about half of it just to fill me. All in total tonight I had 4 beers and felt fine. I was given a G&T from a friend, took two sips, felt sick and went back to beer. It worked out well and cost me less for the night lol. I think I will just keep off the gin for awhile as it is not mixing well.
