It could be,Sticking Exhaust ValvesSticking Intake ValvesBroken Valve springsBad ringsCracked Piston -- Highly unlikelySpark Plug thread crackRounded off CamshaftCompressed liftersBent push rodValve seats very dirtyTake off the valve covers and rotate the engine by hand and observe the valves first. The 351 windsor is a good motor and if it is not burning oil then it is probably the valve train. When you did the compression check what were the PSI numbers that you got?

+1 because it's a Ford. I used to own an F150 with a 351 Windsor. That thing was a piece of junk but I beat the crap out of it for 3 years. It leaked a quart of oil every 60 miles through the rear main seal. I had to stop for oil before it needed gas and it was a total PIG on gas.

I was going to say this kind of thing does not happen over night and how was it running before the breakdown and the mileage... But you are getting rid of it so bye bye!
