Holden has never stopped building the Ute. They're very popular downunder. The SSR failed here but that was a much higher priced El Camino type vehicle. The Ute could sell but probably not in high enough numbers to offset costs of meeting government regulations etc.

I think it's cool, different, and if priced right... people would buy it... I think some people liked the SSR but basically due to it's price was way out of the normal market that would buy it.

I'm skeptical as to how it would sell. I don't think it's bad or anything, I just think that when it comes to put down the cash, not many people would.

Sign me up! I miss my old '78 El Camino. Of course, another '78 would be cheaper to buy than the Ute.

The SSR was not exactly like thse cars, sure in shape. But that was something like the Prowler, low production custom car. The cargo bed was pretty much useless, and it had a power hardtop. It was a retro cruiser more than anything, with a nice V8.The Aussies have high production full size wagon backs that look fun. Subaru tried this with their Baja. I don't even know if it's available anymore, kinda bombed cause the back was barely big enough to fit a bike in it without folding down the tailgate and flipping the cage out.

I think Holden makes a 4-door Ute too. I test-drove an SSR a couple of years ago in AZ. Fun ride, lots of HP, but way over-priced.

Holden should just move to the US and send Chevy packing!

I think those are slick! I've always been a fan of the Ute but man, the more I learn about it the more I see how that's a big, heavy trucklet. I hoped there was a chance that these types of vehicles would do better than a truck on gas but nope... This thing (coverted from l/100 km) gets a high of about 20 with the V6 down to a low of 16 on the high power SS model. Lots of power but man they hog gas. Shouldn't surprise me really, the GTO really sucked on FE as well. Hopefully the Holden-derived G8 will do better but we'll have to see.I don't think they really give a flying crap about efficiency or pollution down there in Oz, despite the hole in the ozone being right over their heads! They've got some really powerful stuff down under.

i really like the brat, its awd, weighs nothing and gets awesome gas mileage, that would be so much fun to own one and just beat the crap out of it

...and jar the people riding in those seats in the bed so bad they get brain damage! That would be kinda fun.
