Busby, 64, of Alexandria, was driving a 2003 Pontiac Vibe northbound on Ind. 9, which is the 300 block of South Park Avenue, at about 1:50 p.m. when he crossed the centerline, struck a guardrail and then collided head-on with a southbound pickup.Madison County Coroner Ned Dunnichay said Busby was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3 p.m.Richardson said Tom Morgan, 57, of Delaware County was driving the 1997 GMC pickup. Richardson said Morgan was airlifted from the scene suffering from a severely injured left leg and taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.A passenger in Morgan’s truck, 49-year-old Mary Morgan, also of Delaware County, was initially taken to Community Hospital, but was later transported by helicopter to Methodist. She suffered a concussion and a broken wrist in the crash. The two were thought to be husband and wife, Richardson said. Both were in critical but stable condition late Tuesday. The crash remains under investigation, but Richardson said Alexandria police received a report of a possibly impaired driver traveling north on Ind. 9 not long before crash. A driver for Fortville-based Seals Ambulance Service ambulance was also traveling north with a patient on board and called in more information, Richardson said.Alexandria police Officer Kyle Williams pulled behind Busby’s vehicle “either right before the accident on right when it happened,” Richardson said, just north of the Norfolk and Western railroad tracks. The sheriff said investigators are still trying to determine Busby’s speed at the time of the crash. While investigators believe autopsy results will shed more light on what caused the collision, officials suspect that Busby suffered from an undisclosed medical condition which may have contributed to the crash. Alcohol and drugs aren’t believed to be factors in the collision.Dunnichay said an autopsy would be performed on Busby Wednesday at Ball Memorial Hospital to determine his exact cause of death.Richardson said all three people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts and had to be extracted from their vehicles by Alexandria fire and EMS officials. Madison County Emergency Management officials and Alexandria police also assisted at the scene. Both vehicles were totaled in the crash, and traffic was diverted from the site, between First and Washington streets, for several hours.

WOW! That looks like a nasty one...It would have been hard to make it out alive. The Vibe can only protect a person to a certain degree even with seat belts and air bags.

Heck, the sunroof is still intact. Says a bit for structural integrity. The truck looks worse than the Vibe.

Some guy on the Houston240sx website wrecked his 240 into a full sized pickup and flipped the truck upside down. OUch....Death by auto accident sucks no matter who was at fault.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Vibe driver's "medical condition" mentioned in the article contributed to his not surviving the wreck.Hope the couple wind up okay.

Another possibility is that the driver-side airbag deployed on the initial impact, before hitting the truck.

Wow, that looks like it hurts. I've never been in a car accident, and hope I never will be in one. I did wreck my motorcycle 7 years ago, a stupid minivan pulled out in front of me.

Crazy thing happened to me today in my wife's vibe.I was coming back from a bicycle ride about 40 miles west of Houston Texas on a 2 lane road. One lane going west, the other going east... divided by a dotted yellow line.Bright, sunny, 60 degree day with very little traffic and some dickhead in a pickup just drifts into my lane coming head-on. He's not passing a slower car, 'cause there aren't any in front of him. I figure he's distracted and will jump back into his lane, but no.... he seems to be looking right at me.I quickly glance to the right, where there is about an 8 ft paved shoulder, then grassy field. I can't believe it but he never moves back over, I dive onto the ABS and all 4 wheels are now in the grass. The SOB flys by me in what was my lane and never even slows down!!! I was kinda stunned, but slowly got back on the paved road and got home with no more drama.Honest to goodness true story about my near head on today. BTW, I was going right at 70mph on cruise control, so any head on would have been instant death.....I swear I think that guy was suicidal and was looking to take someone out with him. It was eerie how I pretty much feel we made eye contact and he was out for me.I was alone and have not cheated with another woman or something like that to have some dude pissed at me!!

At least you weren't on your bike when he passed you.
