The changing of the tires

Now that I went to the two set of tires (winter and summer), when does anyone change into their winter shoes? Since it's mid-November and the snow is coming (soon!), I don't want to be caught without my winter shoes on. Maybe at the beginning of the month (December)? Or right after turkey day? I know it wont take long to make the change.Opinions?

Mine are on already. I generally swap when the weather is consistently below 7 (degrees C). Do you have the winters on their own rims? Or do you need to go to a tire shop to swap them? If you have 2 sets of rims and swap them yourself, I'd wait until the snow flies.

My snow tires are on their own rims (stock 16" alloys). I will probably wait till the snow flies here. We never know exactly WHEN we will get the first snow. Will just have to keep up on the forecasts.

I just got my winter rims & tires swapped yesterday. They say that winter tires are needed for cold temps and not just when the snow flies so I decided to go ahead now. I haven't seen mention of what they consider cold but I figured I'd beat the rush since I have them put on at the tire store. (Frisby on Merivale in Ottawa....nice people.)

We have the option to use studded winter tires up here in alaska. State law allows them to be installed as soon as Sept 15th so from about then to now we do a lot of tire change overs at the dealership.Myself I put my studded winter tires on usually when the frost is getting thick but before the snow falls. My stock tires are only summer tires so frost is just as slippery as snow in those things.

I'm still on my fall tires, Nokian WRs. It snowed a bit today. I'll put the real snows, Dunlop M4s in December.
