2008 Dodge Challenger Unveiled!

At a Dealer show event they brought it out, phone cam pics are first of the production model! Now if they can get this out a few months ahead of the Camaro, I'm sure they will get some good sales. I still expect the new Camaro to blow the numbers of the new Mustang and this out of the water. Now if Chevy only would offer a Transformers package with the logo on the wheel and the Bumble Bee colors, that would be tight!

Looks good, but I definitely like the Camaro better.

I'm not liking it. What did they change? It looks just like the 1970's version.

The more I see the new Challenger, the less I like it. But the more I see the Camaro, the more I like it.

The worked on the B-pillar, extended the rear bumper for crash standards and the SRT8 version has a lip spoiler.

I know how they were trying to do, but they failed.

The old and new charger look nothing alike, not to mention the new charger has 4 doors. Old ChargerNew ChargerAnd the new challenger is a nice update of the old classic, just like the mustang and Camaro are.If you need another comparison of the Chargers, here you go, oooh so close

i'm not a fan of the present charger. although, i've seen some of the suburban police depts sporting them. never understood why they made it a 4-door.RE the camaro and challenger, i'd be happy with either one. i love both designs.

It's a sporty looking car, very retro but very unnecessary... Chrysler kinda sorta needs to work on something that's actually fuel efficient, I think. Of course they aren't even bothering with that, the 15 MPG V8 powered RWD tire smoking machines are more important to them in these days of $3/gallon gas and not to mention the environmental crisis... Gotta prove yer a man, can't do that any way other than revvin' engines and squealin' tires, makin' yerself look like an (removed)! Screw all them 40 mile per gallon tin cans, them's fer sissies! Good god, somebody give them a nice healthy shot of estrogen to try to cancel out all that testosterone.

I am the complete opposite Colonel lol. I love you man, but I think there are way too many pansy cars out than real cars....not that I'm all that concerned about other people's opinions, but when the host of the European show Top Gear drove the Z06 here in the US, not only did he make fun of Americans and a trash filled country, but he made fun of the lack of quality and powerful cars that are made here...that hit home and I agree.I've actually had dreams about these new Challengers, that's how much I love it and as soon as I get my Pharmacist license I am buying one ASAP as a reward to myself.$3 a gallon IS NOT HIGH AT ALL compared to most other countries in the world. Go to Germany and pay around $5-$8 a gallon. I don't fill my tank up that many more times per week than I did 2 years ago either. I'm getting tired of seeing slow, boring, generic, "environmentally friendly", quiet, SOUL-LESS pieces of garbage EVERYWHERE on the road. Fortunately for me, living in the Motor City I see a lot of muscle cars on the road. as well lol. IIt's not about "flexing nuts" so to speak as some like to think. In a muscle car or just any other powerful car like that, I don't know if you've noticed but you can FEEL that blown 454 or that 427 in your bones and it actually seems like it has a soul and is alive...all these new cars now a days don't have that in any way shape or form, I don't care how fat your muffler is. Who cares who sees you or why you do it, hearing an engine that is so prestigious with such a perfect sound is such a deep emotional feeling for me I cannot describe it.For those who have a deep passion for muscle cars can clearly see the differences between this one and the old one ....but god I loooooooooooove that Challenger!!!!!

like i posted earlier, i never got why dodge made the new charger a 4-door. but the challenger is spot on. love it. however, it looks like the price will be starting at at least a cool $10k higher than the mustang. hopefully what's inside the car will justify the price.i'm diggin it.

Well most muscle cars looked similar in ways so the Camaro and the Challenger have both been successfully redesigned IMO.Ford destroyed the Mustang concept car when it first came out, making the car higher off the ground, shortening the wheel base (looks like it at least), making roof line taller. Looks crappy now. I have a strong feeling they will do that to the Camaro as well which is kind of depressing but we will see.

well look at it this way, if dodge still has their "life time warrenty" you should have to worry about the tranny cause it'll be(hopefully) covered under that "life time warrenty"

Everytime I see an article on this thing its always labeled REVEALED!Hasn't this thing been revealed like 15 times already. From the concepts, to the close to production, to the spy shots taken at the LV Auto Show.

But why no six-speed manual at launch? Same thing with the G8...I would not buy this car with an automatic.

Wow, 4140 lbs, 5 seats, and 13/18 mpg. (Even my dad's Vette was getting 20mpg. )In retrospective, these are the curb weight* of other vehicles...2006 Pontiac Vibe GT: 2800 lbs2005-2007 Ford Mustang GT: 3518 lbs2000-2005 Pontiac Bonneville: 3590 lbs2006 Pontiac Pontiac GTO 3725 lbs2005 Chevrolet Silverado: 4661 lbs * Curb Weight is the actual weight of the truck without any passengers or cargo in it. It’s the base weight that is used in subtraction to calculate the total weight of the vehicle with passengers and cargo. That is one FAT car.

Yeah, this car isn't exactly going to set the performance world on fire. A "base" Corvette has 430 hp and is only like 3300 lbs. The Corvette is faster, and gets better fuel economy. I know this car was not made to compete with a Corvette, but for a performance minded car, it's not going to be very fast. Hopefully the Camaro won't weigh two-tons.

I remember that thing, I saw it at the NAIAS in NY in 99. It was to be the direct competition to the Vette from what I gathered.

That's probably why it didn't get made. The Viper is already in competition with the Vette. Plus that thing has four doors, which puts it in a different category.

As much as I still enjoy seeing pics of the car, I can't help but think I would be perfectly happy with a $25K Mustang GT.I know the first run will be SRT8, and then follow by 5.7 Hemi. I read there today, that there will no NO V6.
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/0...-your/As much trouble as Chrysler is in, do they really think Challengers will draw people into the dealership to buy a Dodge Avenger? Drop a 2.7L V6, sell it for $20K and start paying some bills.

I was really suprised to see that they were still releasing the car. It does fill a void in their production line, and with the mustang selling so wellthey are tring to gain in sales in the same class. I still wish that the 5.7 was released because my order would have been in on day one. I do think chrysler is starting to head in the right direction though, cutting a few cars from the lineup.Aron
